Report on 301 radiographs of the paranasal sinuses of cleft patients and on 120 radiographs of the paranasal sinuses of subjects from a control group to illustrate the development of the maxillary and frontal sinuses. In female individuals as well as in male ones, the maxillary sinuses on the left side are greater than those on the right side. BACKGROUND: Bacterial biofilms have been documented on middle ear mucosa, tonsils, and cholesteatoma. We hypothesize that bacterial biofilms are present in mucosa of patients with chronic sinusitis. We believe that frontal sinus stents may serve as a reservoir for biofilms.

Twenty-seven patients with acute frontal sinusitis, collected during a 4-month period, were examined with plain radiographics and MRI both at the time of diagnosis and one month later. Findings in the frontal and ethmoidal sinuses were recorded. Frontal sinus trephination was performed in 13 of the 27 cases. Osteomas are the most common benign tumors of the paranasal sinuses. They are usually localized in the frontal sinus. Giant osteomas of the frontal sinuses are very rare but readily extend into the intraorbital or intracranial cavity, causing serious complications.
