Research on the Prevention and Control of Blast Impact Pressure in Deep Holes and the Mechanism of Coordinated Extraction of Harmful Gases.

Uncontrolled carbon monoxide (CO) release after deep-hole roof pressure-relief blasting remains a safety problem because conventional shallow drainage often fails to match the strata where blast gases are generated and retained. Here, we clarify the permeability-contrast-controlled retention mechanism and propose an integrated blasting-sealing-extraction framework that couples field diagnosis at the A503 working face, dynamic fracture modeling, confined explosion tests, adsorption-diffusion analysis, and industrial validation. The method uses the critical distance between the fracture front an…

Interpretable Artificial Intelligence for Analysing Changes in Gases in the Uterine Environment of Cows According to Physiological Structures in the Ovary.

The objective of the present study was to examine the relationship between the gases in a cow's uterine environment and its ovarian physiological structures using the sunflower optimisation algorithm (SFOA) deployed in a device called Metrisör, developed by our project team. A total of 500 uteruses obtained from slaughtered cows served as the experimental sample. Gas measurements were taken from 489 uteruses with no clinical metritis or microbiological growth. Additionally, the diameters of the corpus luteum and follicles in the ovaries were measured using callipers. These results were then an…

The Influence of 3D Printing Core Construction (Binder Jetting) on the Amount of Generated Gases in the Environmental and Technological Aspect.

This article presents the findings of a study focusing on the gas generation of 3D-printed cores fabricated using binder-jetting technology … e core sand components and binder type. Cores produced using conventional methods emitted the least gases due to lower binder content. Increasing Kaltharz U404 resin to 1.5 parts by weight resulted in a 37% rise in gas volume and 27% higher benzene emission. Adopting shell cores reduced gas volume by over 20% (retaining sand with hardener) and 30% (remo …

Exposure to anesthetic gases in the operating rooms and assessment of non-carcinogenic risk among health care workers.

Health care workers employed operating room in hospital and health centers are unavoidably exposed to inhaling toxic gases, including isoflurane and sevoflurane. Chronic contact with these gases increases the risk of spontaneous abortion, congenital anomalies and cancers. Risk assessment is an important tool in predicting the possible risk to personnel's health. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of determining the concentration of isoflurane and sevoflurane gas in the air of the operating room and estimating the non-carcinogenic risk caused by them. In this descriptive-cross-sec…

Exploring the Potential of Metal-Organic Frameworks for the Separation of Blends of Fluorinated Gases with High Global Warming Potential.

The research on porous materials for the selective capture of fluorinated gases (F-gases) is key to reduce their emissions. Here, the adsorption of difluoromethane (R-32), pentafluoroethane (R-125), and 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (R-134a) is studied in four metal-organic frameworks (MOFs: Cu-benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8, MOF-177, and MIL-53(Al)) and in one zeolite (ZSM-5) with the aim to develop technologies for the efficient capture and separation of high global warming potential blends containing these gases. Single-component sorption equilibria of the pure g…

Dispersion modeling of odour, gases, and respirable dust using AERMOD for poultry and dairy barns in the Canadian Prairies.

For determining setback distances considering multiple air pollutants, a comprehensive study was conducted to simulate the atmospheric dispersion of odour, ammonia (NH3), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and respirable dust using an US EPA air dispersion model AERMOD for a commercial dairy, broiler, and cage-layer barn in the Canadian Prairies. The simulation was conducted using five years of meteorological data. Setback distances were determined with the input of varying monthly emission rates of all four air pollutants and odour impact criteria specifically developed for all three odour sources. Resu

Applying gases for microcirculatory and cellular oxygenation in sepsis: effects of nitric oxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen sulfide.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Nitric oxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) are gases that have received attention as signaling molecules regulating many biological processes. All of them were reported to have beneficial effects in inflammatory states, in particular for microcirculatory perfusion and tissue energy balance. Thus, this review will highlight the most important results with a focus on resuscitated, clinically relevant experimental models and, if available, human studies. RECENT FINDINGS: There is ample evidence that nitric oxide, carbon monoxide, and H2S may exert cytoprotective…

Selected ion flow tube studies of the reactions of H3O+, NO+ and O2+ with the anaesthetic gases halothane, isoflurane and sevoflurane.

We have carried out a study of the reactions of H(3)O(+), NO(+) and O(2) (+), the commonly used precursor ions for selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS), with three anaesthetic gases, halothane, isoflurane and sevoflurane. The motivation for this study was to provide the necessary kinetic data that would allow the quantification of these anaesthetic gases in operating theatre air and in the breath of theatre staff and post-operative patients. A clear negative result from these experiments is that NO(+), although undergoing the simplest chemistry, is unsuitable for this SIFT-MS app…

[Evaluation of a drying procedure for dairy products coming in direct contact with flue gases from the oncologic viewpoint].

The study was concerned with ambient air and heat-transfer medium levels of benzo(a)-pyrene (BP) and N-nitrosoamines (NA) measured at the input and output of the drying chamber of two milk dryers using different systems of heat generation. Said concentrations were ascertained in the dried product (casein), too. One installation used electricity-heated ambient air, while the other--air-diluted products of natural gas combustion. No significant difference was registered for both dryers between ambient-air and heat-transfer medium concentrations of BP and two NAs detected--NDMA and NDEA. There wa

Effects of continuous positive airway pressure on pulmonary function and blood gases of infants with respiratory distress syndrome.

Nitrogen washout measurements and blood-gas analyses were made on 32 newborn infants with severe RDS at continuous positive airway pressures (CPAP) of 5, 10, and 15 cm H2O. Increases in airway pressure resulted in significant increases in PaO2 and functional residual capacity (FRC). It also produced significant decreases in alveolar turnover rates of the "fast" and "slow" alveolar spaces of a two-space lung model. Changes in CPAP did not significantly affect the distribution of ventilation. The changes in PaO2, due to changes in CPAP, did not correlate well with changes in FRC/wt nor with chan

Exploring Photochemical Conversion of NO2 to HONO on N-Heterocycles: Unique Variation Trend of Gases, Kinetics, and Mechanism.

The photochemical conversion of NO2 to nitrous acid (HONO) on N-heterocycles and the corresponding benzene compounds was investigated through a flow tube reactor coupled with the methods of spectroscopy, mass spectrum, and theoretical calculation. The average uptake coefficient of NO2 on organics during 1 h (γa) varied in the range of (1.1-8.0) × 10-6. Light led to an increase in γa by a factor of 2.2-11.5 times. HONO was generated by electron transfer from excited organics to NO2, as shown by the linear correlation of NO2 uptake and HONO formation with electron (e-) production from organics.

Numerical investigation of the effects of adding different gases on the performance and emissions of an ammonia-hydrogen dual-fuel engine.

As an alternative to fossil fuels, there is growing interest in using ammonia in combustion systems, particularly in internal combustion engines. As a competent competitor to hydrogen, it has various advantages. However, adding an ignition promoter such as hydrogen is still necessary to maintain combustion stability. Since the engine using ammonia also suffers from high NOx emissions, in this study, the effects of adding different gases on the performance and emissions of an ammonia-hydrogen dual-fuel engine were numerically investigated. The base engine was a diesel engine whose parameters we…

Vertically resolved meteorological adjustments of aerosols and trace gases in Beijing, Taiyuan, and Hefei by using RF model.

Air pollution represents a complex phenomenon defined by the presence of various gases and particulate matter, leading to intricate spatio-temporal fluctuations. This study aims to enhance our understanding of how meteorological factors influence trace gases and aerosols, exacerbating air pollution in various geographical locations, specifically in Beijing's Fengtai (BJFT), Taiyuan City (SXTY), and Hefei's Science Island (HFDP). The study employs 2D-MAX-DOAS observations and utilizes the Random Forest (RF) model to decouple the influence of meteorological conditions from pollutant data. The ve…

Simultaneous Detection of CO and NH3 Gases at Room Temperature with an Array of ZnS Chemiresistive Sensors and the Superposition Principle.

Simultaneous detection of multiple toxic gases in the air using room temperature gas sensors is significant in low-power environmental monitoring applications. However, the low-temperature resistive gas sensors are sensitive to more than one gas, and thus, an array of gas sensors and high energy-consuming machine learning algorithms are required to predict the concentrations of the individual gases in mixed target gas. Here, we report a computationally less intensive method to predict the composition of the target gases using linear gas sensors. A sensor array consisting of two ZnS resistive g…

Key factors and primary modification methods of activated carbon and their application in adsorption of carbon-based gases: A review.

To achieve carbon neutrality, it is necessary to control carbon-based gas emissions to the atmosphere. Among the various carbon-based gas removal technologies reported to date, adsorption is considered one of the most promising because of its economic efficiency, reusability, and low energy consumption. Activated carbon is widely used to treat different types of carbon-based gases owing to its large specific surface area, abundant functional groups, and strong adsorption capacity. This paper reviews the recent research progress into activated carbon as an adsorbent for carbon-based gases. The …
