A female aged 64 reported sudden whitening of the hair. Analysis proved it to be alopecia areata. Rarely, alopecia areata is of diffuse onset. If in such a case it is mostly the pigmented hairs that are lost the impression can be made of a person with grey hair turning white overnight. A review is given of some historical cases which may have been caused by this phenomenon.

It is known that honeybee propolis has various biological activities, including stimulating the proliferation of hair matrix keratinocytes. Two-dimensional distribution of mercury (Hg) in hair samples of rats exposed to methylmercury (MeHg) was analyzed by synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence (SR-XRF) imaging. Experiments with endogenous- and exogenous-model for MeHg exposure revealed that the metal level was obviously higher in the hair cortex after the former exposure whereas a dominant site that Hg distributed after the latter exposure was the cuticle. Scrotal hair is a clinical condition that occurs rarely in infancy. Its prevalence is not known. We present a retrospective analysis of six patients referred to our pediatric endocrinology clinic. Except for scrotal hair development, all physical examinations were normal. Underlying pathologic hyperandrogenism was excluded in each case. PURPOSE: To establish whether trichoscopy can be useful in the differential diagnosis of patchy alopecia in children.
PROCEDURES: The study was a retrospective analysis (2012-2015) and included 68 patients under 6 years of age. The inclusion criteria were age and the presence of 1-3 alopecia patches.
