Occupational dermatology has become a vibrant and interesting specialty, particularly in recent years. This includes more than hand eczema (HE). The increasing prevalence of atopic dermatitis (AD) has led to an increase of atopic hand eczema which can be worsened in certain occupations. New systemic therapies have improved the range of treatments for HE. The current guideline on hand eczema includes a variety of topical and systemic therapies. BACKGROUND: Herpetic whitlow is a viral infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 or 2, and occurs in the pediatric population primarily on the fingers and toes due to autoinoculation from oral secretions. Because of this cited prevalence, other locations of herpetic whitlow may go unrecognized.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present an atypical presentation of palmar herpetic whitlow with delayed recognition and associated viral lymphangitis. The patient presented as a transfer from an outside hospital with a progressive, three-day history of a suspected left hand abscess preceded by

Fungal infections, which are named according to the body site involved, can affect any skin area, the fingernails, or the toenails. Numerous fungal agents are responsible for both superficial and deep fungal diseases. Dermatophytes and Candida spp are the most common causative organisms on the surface of the hands, feet, and nails of patients with superficial fungal diseases; however, although deep fungal infections of the skin are less common compared with superficial fungal diseases, their incidence is increasing worldwide due to cross-border travel. Most superficial fungal diseases are diag

Alitretinoin is a unique retinoid authorised for the treatment of adults with severe chronic hand eczema (CHE) refractory to potent topical steroids. The most common adverse events (AEs) were typical class effects of oral retinoids including headache, flushing and skin disorders. To our knowledge, there are no cases of sensitization to alitretinoin reported in literature. We present a case of sensitization to alitretinoin.

Chilblains are an inflammatory skin condition that develops following exposure to the cold. They consist of pruritic and/or painful erythematous-to-violaceous acral lesions and are the result of an abnormal vascular response to exposure to the cold. This benign condition is common in southern Brazil, particularly in Rio Grande do Sul where climatic conditions, together with cultural and economic aspects, facilitate the development of these sores.

A 16-year-old boy presented to the Pediatric Dermatology Clinic at the Charles C. Harris Skin and Cancer Pavilion with a two-year history of asymptomatic swelling of fingers on both hands. His condition had remained undiagnosed after previous evaluation by several dermatologists and hand specialists. He initially had noticed increased fullness of his proximal left fourth digit. Several months later, he noted swelling of his left fifth digit and right second through fourth digits. The patient reported no pain, pruritus, restriction of movement, morning stiffness, or trauma. He also denied repet

Cutaneous mucinoses, also called lichen myxoedematosus, are a group of diseases characterized by mucin deposit on the skin. They may be associated to systemic diseases (scleromyxedema) or be primary ones (papular mucinosis, localized lichen myxoedematous), although they share common findings (intermediate or atypical forms) in some cases. Acral persistent papular mucinosis (APPM) is a type of papular mucinosis that is located exclusively on the back of the hands and in the distal zone of the forearms and is not associated to any systemic disease. We present the case of a 52-year-old healthy wo

PURPOSE: The safety and feasibility of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) compared with retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) are debated. This systematic evaluation was performed to obtain comprehensive evidence with regard to the treatment outcomes of PCNL compared with RIRS for management of renal stones in patients with solitary kidney.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A systematic search of Medline, Embase, Pubmed, Web of Science, CNKI, Scopus and the Cochrane Library was performed to identify studies that compared PCNL with RIRS for management of renal stones in patients with solitary kidney and p
