PURPOSE: Reconstruction after resection of head and neck cancer can be challenging, especially when tumors extend to the base of the skull. Vascularized flaps are the option of choice, whether free or pedicled. The medical and demographic data analyzed were taken from officially published materials of the Government of the Republic of China on Taiwan, our own studies, and those of other researchers. BACKGROUND: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) can secrete bioactive amines in the bloodstream, resulting in the carcinoid syndrome characterized by diarrhea and flushing. The frequency of occurrence of primary cardiac neuroendocrine neoplasms is lesser than that of metastases, and hence, metastases must be adequately ruled out before diagnosis. Cardiac tumors, both primary and metastatic, mainly result in heart-related symptoms, such as heart failure and acquired valvular dysfunction. BACKGROUND: Adriamycin (ADR) is a powerful chemotherapeutic agent extensively used to treat various human neoplasms. However, its clinical utility is hampered due to severe adverse side effects i.e. cardiotoxicity and heart failure. ADR-induced cardiomyopathy (AIC) has been reported to be caused by myocardial damage and dysfunction through oxidative stress, DNA damage, and inflammatory responses. Nonetheless, the remedies for AIC are even not established. Therefore, we illustrate the role of NAD+/NADH modulation by NAD(P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) enzymatic action on AIC.
