We present two previously unreported and unrelated female patients, one with the tentative diagnosis of acromegaloid facial appearance (AFA), the other with the tentative diagnosis of hypertrichosis with acromegaloid facial appearance (HAFF) with or without gingival hyperplasia. Main clinical features of HAFF were generalized hypertrichosis terminalis and coarse facial features. In both patients, pregnancy was complicated by polyhydramnios, and both had hyperbilirubinemia and persistent fetal circulation. Development was normal in one patient and slightly delayed in the other. At 13 years, bot…

Acquired localized hypertrichosis has rarely been reported. Here, we describe a patient with localized hypertrichosis of the pinnae that occurred 4 months after orchiectomy and chemotherapy for a testicular carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first case of an acquired hypertrichosis of the pinnae after cancer therapy. We propose that in our patient either hypogonadism or the hormonal imbalance caused by the cancer therapy led to the development of the hairy pinnae, perhaps alongside a genetic predisposition for hairy ears.

We report a case of acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa associated with rectal cancer and discuss the cutaneous symptoms as a marker of malignancy. A 75-year-old man had noticed increasing growth of hair over his entire body 4 months before he was admitted to our hospital because of bloody stools. Advanced rectal cancer was diagnosed, and he underwent sigmoidocolostomy. After the operation, levels of serum adrenocorticotrophic hormone and cortisone were normal, as were urinary levels of 17-ketosteroids and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids. Levels of carcinoembryonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19…

BACKGROUND: Localized acquired hypertrichosis (LAH) is a condition characterized by increased hair growth and is frequently seen after cast removal in children and adolescents. The purpose of this study was to examine the natural history of LAH and its potential impact on patients' quality of life.
METHODS: Patients between the ages of 5 and 16 years, in whom hypertrichosis was detected after the removal of a cast were enrolled in a prospective study. Each patient completed the Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index after cast removal and at follow-up. Each patient was followed up until co…

We present three patients with familial congenital hypertrichosis localized to the anterior cervical region, associated with peripheral sensory and motor neuropathy. This association may represent a new neurocutaneous syndrome. The association of anterior midline cutaneous lesions with an underlying malformation is discussed.

Minoxidil is a vasodilator medication known for its ability to promote hair growth. Although it was first introduced as an oral drug to trea … effects of topical minoxidil include irritant and allergic contact dermatitis, pruritus, and facial hypertrichosis, which are more often seen with the use of 5% solutions rather than 2%. Herein, we report a 24-year-old woman who developed severe ear and face hypertrichosis after using a topical 5% minoxidil solution. She later had spontaneous resolution of her h …

BACKGROUND: Paradoxical hypertrichosis (PH) is an uncommon, poorly understood adverse effect associated with laser or intense pulsed light treatment for hair removal.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine PH prevalence and associated risk factors.
METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies evaluating hair removal with lasers or intense pulsed light. Primary outcome was PH prevalence. Meta-regression and subgroup analysis were used to investigate associations among treatment modality, patients' char…

BACKGROUND: Acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa (AHL) is a rare cutaneous disorder that involves spontaneous growth of lanugo-type hair in association with overt or occult malignant neoplasms. Bronchopulmonary and gastrointestinal malignancies are most commonly associated.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the occurrence of AHL associated with metastatic prostate cancer and its abrupt resolution after bilateral orchiectomy. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of an association with prostate cancer.
LIMITATIONS: The case presented represents a single patient; therefore, the findings a…
