Rokitamycin (RKM) dry syrup, a newly developed macrolide antibiotic, was administered to children with ages between 6 months and 15 years and 10 months suffering from skin and soft tissue infections including 41 cases of impetigo, one case of staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS) and 2 cases of subcutaneous abscess totalling 44 cases. The average daily dose level used was 31.3 mg/kg divided into 3 or 4 doses, for an average of 6 days of treatment. MICs of 4 different macrolide antibiotics including RKM, erythromycin (EM), josamycin (JM) and midecamycin acetate (MDM acetate) were determin…

An infant with a history of atopic dermatitis presented to the emergency department on 5 occasions with flulike symptoms. Eventually, this child presented with signs of infection and increased intracranial pressure: fever, bulging anterior fontanel, and leukocytosis. A computed tomography scan identified a large frontal lobe brain abscess. The abscess was surgically drained; culture was positive for Staphylococcus aureus. The initial source of the infected brain abscess was explored. Ultimately, it was thought to be secondary to impetiginized atopic dermatitis, an unusual but serious consequen

Considering the lack of existing evidence on economic burden for diseases caused by group A Streptococcus, we estimated the economic burden … The average economic burden per episode ranged from $22 to $392 for pharyngitis, $25 to $2,903 for impetigo, $47 to $2,725 for cellulitis, $662 to $34,330 for invasive and toxin-mediated infections, $231 to $6,332 for acute rheumatic fever (ARF), $449 to $11,717 for rheumatic heart disease (RHD), and $949 to $39,560 for severe RHD across income groups. Dermatoses of the hands and feet cover a wide range of skin diseases that can occur in children and adolescents and are a frequent question in dermatological practice. Our synopsis of the most important differential diagnoses and their treatment is intended to provide better orientation for daily practice. A precise and detailed history is essential to establish a diagnosis, followed by clinical examination and specific examination methods. Streptococcus pyogenes or group A streptococcus (GAS) is a Gram-positive bacterium that can cause a wide range of diseases, including pharyngitis, impetigo, scarlet fever, necrotizing fasciitis, rheumatic fever, and streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. Despite the increasing burden on global health caused by GAS, there is currently no licensed vaccine available. In this study, we evaluated immunogenicity, induction of neutralizing antibodies, and stability of a new recombinant fusion protein vaccine that targets infections from GAS. The recombinant fusion protein (SpeAB) combines inactive mutan…
