Questions have arisen regarding the risk of developing symptomatic Histoplasma capsulatum infection among patients who undergo transplant-related immunosuppression in areas endemic for histoplasmosis. When VSV is applied to the nasal neuroepithelium, it initially replicates in olfactory receptor neurons, and is transmitted along the olfactory nerve to the central nervous system (CNS) within 12 hours. During two histoplasmosis outbreaks in Indianapolis 45 patients presented with pericarditis. The pericarditis occurred as a late complication in individual patients and during the outbreak. Risk factors for this complication included young age, immunocompetence, and male sex in persons between 20 and 39 years old. Intrathoracic adenopathy was present in 66% of cases. BACKGROUND: Articular cartilage injuries are a common injury among young, active patients, and the most appropriate treatment for these injuries remains controversial. A promising new technology in the treatment of high-grade cartilage injuries is particulated juvenile articular cartilage (PJAC) allograft (DeNovo NT, Zimmer, Warsaw, Indiana). Gastric tube placement practices were identified by a telephone survey of 113 Level II and Level III nurseries in five states (Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania). The purpose was to examine current practice and the rationale for practice with fragile preterm infants.
