One hundred eighty-three human single copy clones were isolated from the Livermore Laboratory chromosome 11 library (ID code LL11NSO1) and 112 of them were mapped to chromosome 11. Using a panel of somatic cell hybrids segregating chromosome 11 translocations and short arm deletions, 54 of the clones were assigned to one of nine segments on the short arm of chromosome 11; the remainder were assigned to the long arm. AIMS/BACKGROUND: To analyse radiation related complications and secondary enucleation after irradiation of malignant uveal melanoma with ruthenium-106 plaques.
METHODS: A series of 100 consecutive eyes irradiated in 1981-91 was analysed using the life table method and the Cox proportional hazards model. The median apical and scleral tumour dose was 100 Gy (range 15-200 Gy) and 1000 Gy (range 200-1200 Gy), respectively. Ultrasonic fragmentation (USF) can be used to fragment various tissues such as the lens, the vitreous, the iris, and the ciliary body, so that they may be aspirated through a 23-gauge canula. Since the technique was first described in 1973, it has been used in 148 eyes in a variety of conditions with encouraging results. PURPOSE: To evaluate outcome of surgical resection of iris and irido-ciliary melanomas.
METHOD: Retrospective analysis of all cases treated in Denmark 1975-1999 with clinical follow-up in 2002 and death certificate analysis in 2008. A quality of life questionnaire was completed at follow-up.

An early and correct diagnosis substantially improves the post-operative prognosis of acute angle closure glaucoma (AACG). PURPOSE: Local treatment of uveal melanoma by radiotherapy involves the use of brachytherapy with radioactive plaques attached to the sclera, or proton irradiation. Both treatments induce growth arrest within the tumour and its slow involution over several years. Although ocular retention rates are excellent, regrowth of tumours due to resistance and neovascular glaucoma leads to enucleation of up to 10% of affected eyes. Uveal melanoma is the most common type of intraocular cancer with a low mean annual incidence of 5‑10 cases per million. Tumours are located in the choroid (90%), ciliary body (6%) or iris (4%) and of 85% are primary tumours.
