This study assessed the integration of housefly larva bioconversion with aerobic composting for chicken manure (MC) over a 45-day period (4 days of larval bioconversion + 41 days of aerobic composting) and compared it with direct composting (CK1) and sawdust-amended composting (CK2). INTRODUCTION: Ocular toxocarosis associated with high peripheral eosinophilia and together with systemic signs of visceral damage has been reported sporadically. Eye infections caused by numerous migrating larvae of Toxocara parasites, probably due to re-invasion or delayed reactivation, and leading to a progressive loss of vision is relatively rare. The purpose of this prospective study was to update epidemiological data on cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) and to assess the therapeutic efficacy of ivermectin. We performed the study between June 1994 and December 1998 at our travel clinic. Experiments in 3 weeks old albino mice with Toxocara canis and sublethal infection with JE virus established a marked synergestic effect in dually infected mice. The results are discussed to indicate the possible role of visceral larva migrans in creating exploxive outbreaks of "acute encephalopathy syndrome" in individuals having simultaneous infection with a virus (es) which, alone, might produce only mild illness.
