Toxocariasis is usually manifested as visceral larva migrans. Nervous system involvement is a rare complication. In this report, we describe one case of meningoencephalitis due to Toxocara canis and review the literature. We report the case of a 3-year-old girl with stage I Wilms' tumor of favorable histology. During the course of chemotherapy 5 months post-diagnosis, an abdominal ultrasonogram revealed hypoechoic areas consistent with hepatic tumor recurrence. A liver biopsy performed to rule out recurrence of the malignancy was suggestive of toxocariasis and the diagnosis was confirmed by serologic testing. The laboratory test results for visceral larva migrans (VLM) using ELISA for Toxocara canis antibodies employed by the Institute for Medical Research, Kuala Lumpur, is described. A total of 331 serum samples received from hospitals and general practitioners all over Malaysia were tested. We herein report a case of coagulation necrosis with granulation and eosinophilic infiltration of the liver. A 37-year-old woman was diagnosed with a new mass lesion in the liver 1 month after breast cancer surgery and admitted for a further examination. INTRODUCTION: Toxocariasis is a zoonosis which is in Serbia characterized with a very high infection rate of dogs and excessive contamination of the soil with the eggs of Toxocara canis, the agent of the disease. Toxocara-induced infections have in recent years been established in a few hundreds of children, but toxocariasis has rather rarely been diagnosed in adults.
