In 10-20 % of conventional keratoplasties immunological graft reactions (TPR) occur, which may lead to endothelial cell loss and irreversible transplant rejection. Beside the optical advantages of non-mechanical excimer laser trephination, it does not seem to have immunological disadvantages (13.9 % TPR in keratoconus, 2.9 % in Fuchs' dystrophy after 3 years). OBJECTIVE: Nasal obstruction always occurs when the nasal passages are narrowed by a hypertrophic turbinate or a deviated nasal septum. Patients with nasal obstruction often have associated snoring. Laser-assisted outpatient septoplasty (LAOS) has a specific clinical application in chronic nasal obstruction due to moderate anterior septal deviation. Significant improvement has been reported in the measures of nasal obstruction following LAOS. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of LAOS as an adjunctive procedure for snoring resulting from nasal obstruction.

The pharyngeal airway obstruction that occurs during sleep in some patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) can be improved after treatment by laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP), a new technique performed under local anaesthesia. This article describes an interesting technique combining laser coagulation and vaporization using the Nd/YAG laser followed by standard electroresection (TURP) to allow an essentially catheter free postoperative course, early return to normal activity, < 24-h hospitalization, and decreased intraoperative and postoperative complications. Combining the two laser techniques with TURP, eliminates the problems and complications that are associated with any of these procedures individually.
