Nasoenteric tube versus jejunostomy for enteral nutrition feeding following major upper gastrointestinal operations: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Following major upper gastrointestinal surgical procedures, early enteral nutrition to the jejunum is strongly recommended, either through a nasoenteric tube or a percutaneous transperitoneal jejunal feeding tube (jejunostomy). However, to date there has been no consensus as to the best enteral feeding strategy. Our aim was to determine the safest and most efficacious early enteral nutrition supplement strategy following major upper gastrointestinal operations. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN: PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases were systematically searched for c

Systematic review and meta-analysis: reminder systems to reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections and urinary catheter use in hospitalized patients.

BACKGROUND: Prolonged catheterization is the primary risk factor for catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). Reminder systems are interventions used to prompt the removal of unnecessary urinary catheters. To summarize the effect of urinary catheter reminder systems on the rate of CAUTI, urinary catheter use, and the need for recatheterization, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: Studies were identified in MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, Biosis, the Web of Science, EMBASE, and CINAHL through August 2008. Only interventional studies that used reminders to ph

The efficacy and safety of short-acting, full agonist opioids for symptom management of opioid withdrawal.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with opioid use disorder often have undertreated withdrawal while in hospital, leading to high rates of premature discharges. Short-acting, full agonist opioids (SAFAOs) have been proposed to alleviate withdrawal symptoms when provided as adjuncts to opioid agonist therapy (OAT). We aimed to synthesize evidence on the safety and efficacy of SAFAOs. METHODS: We searched the scientific databases MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, PsycInfo, Web of Science Core Collection, and the Cochrane Library for studies with adults whose opioid withdrawal symptoms were treated with SAFAOs.
