The Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the adaptor myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) are important in the innate immune defenses of the host to microbial infections. Organic acids are commonly produced and exuded by plant roots and soil microorganisms. Some of these organic compounds are effective chelating agents and have the potential to enhance metal mobility.
