The complex of myxomas, spotty pigmentation, endocrine overactivity, and schwannomas (the Carney complex) is a multisystem tumorous disorder that is transmitted as a mendelian autosomal dominant trait. Reconstruction of substantial-sized upper lip defects may require an Abbe flap reconstruction to avoid excessive tightness and deformity. The design of the Abbe or lip switch flap harvested from the lower lip is important for a satisfactory aesthetic and functional result. Harvest of the flap is performed to enable a definitive inset into the defect. The video that accompanies this article depicts rotation of an Abbe flap into a philtral defect created by basal cell carcinoma excision.

This communication reports the second known case of oral phaeohyphomycosis in a patient with squamocellular carcinoma of the lip. The patient, an 82-year-old black woman, a former smoker (for more than 30 years), suffering from an ulcerous vegetative lesion in the middle third of the lower lip for approximately 12 months. The reconstruction of oral commissure, lip and mucosa defects following tumour resection is a challenging task to the reconstructive surgeon owing to the increasing aesthetic and functional demands. The authors describe a case in which the use of combined first-second toe web with dorsalis pedis flap was transferred and an optimal result was achieved for the oral commissure, lip and buccal mucosa following resection of squamous cell carcinoma and local flap failure.

PURPOSE: Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (IPEH) is a benign, nonneoplastic, vascular lesion, that is characterized histologically by papillary fronds lined by proliferating endothelium: it is thought to represent an unusual form of organizing thrombus. We describe four cases of unusual superficial cutaneous cysts that have a lining epithelium composed of apocrine cells immediately adjacent to keratinizing squamous epithelium with an intact granular layer. Two of the cysts were on the nipple of the breast and two of the cysts were on the face. The lumina of all four cysts contained keratin. Immunoperoxidase staining for carcinoembryonic antigen in the facial cysts showed positive staining within the apocrine cells of the lining epithelium in one case.
