BACKGROUND: Lymphatic malformations (LMs) represent a potentially life-threatening, rare disease of the lymphatic system characterized by development of abnormal vessels, outpouchings, or cysts filled with lymphatic fluid. There are three morphologic types of LMs based on the size of the individual cysts: macrocystic (typically > 2 cm), microcystic (generally < 2 cm), and mixed (includes aspects of both). Macrocystic LMs typically exist beneath the skin and often can involve vascular components and/or organs. Microcystic LMs often have a cutaneous component and clinically present with lymphorr

OBJECTIVE: To document the natural history and complications of second- and third-trimester non-nuchal lymphatic malformations (LM) and identify predictors of these complications.
METHODS: We conducted a single-centre retrospective review of fetuses diagnosed with LMs between January 2015 and January 2024. Lesion size was quantified using the lymphatic malformation volume ratio (LVR): LVR = 0.523 x width x length x height (cm3) / head circumference (cm). Outcomes and LVR growth trends were analyzed using Student's t-test and a linear mixed-effects model.
RESULTS: Eighteen cases were included

OBJECTIVES: Lymphatic malformations (LMs) are abnormal lymphatic vessels with cystic characteristics, categorized as macrocystic, microcystic, or a combination of both. They represent the second most common vascular malformations, and their management involves multidisciplinary approaches based on clinical assessments and imaging studies. LMs manifest as a challenge to medical professionals in the head and neck, posing functional and aesthetic concerns. Our systematic review aims to compare the efficacy of sclerotherapy and surgery for LMs, identifying optimal treatment modalities for each sce

This is the first reported case of a mesenteric lymphatic malformation in a toddler in Malaysia. It is a rare benign condition with incidence of 1 in 250,000 populations. Our patient presented to us at 2 years 11months old complaining of abdominal distension for 6 months without obstructive symptoms. Clinically there was a vague soft central abdominal mass. CT abdomen done revealed a large multiloculated intraperitoneal mesentery cystic mass within the central abdomen extending to pelvis. A semi-emergency laparotomy was performed. Intra-operatively the multiloculated mesenteric cyst measured 2

Lymphatic malformations (LMs) are developmental defects of lymphatic vessels. LMs are histologically benign lesions, however, due to localization, size, and unexpected swelling, they may cause serious complications that threaten vital functions such as compression of the airways. A large swelling of the face or neck may also be disfiguring and thus constitute a psychological strain for patients and their families. LMs are also highly immunologically reactive, and are prone to recurrent infections and inflammation causing pain as well as chronic oozing wounds. The European Reference Network on

Lymphatic anomalies comprise a spectrum of disorders ranging from common localized microcystic and macrocystic lymphatic malformations (LMs) to rare complex lymphatic anomalies, including generalized lymphatic anomaly, Kaposiform lymph-angiomatosis, central conducting lymphatic anomaly, and Gorham-Stout disease. Imaging diagnosis of cystic LMs is generally straightforward, but complex lymphatic anomalies, particularly those with multiorgan involvement or diffuse disease, may be more challenging to diagnose. Complex lymphatic anomalies are rare but associated with high morbidity. Imaging plays

Pulmonary lymphatic development in chronic lung disease (CLD) has not been investigated, and anatomy of lymphatics in human infant lungs is not well defined. Hypothesis. Pulmonary lymphatic hypoplasia is present in CLD. Method. Autopsy lung tissues of eighteen subjects gestational ages 22 to 40 weeks with and without history of respiratory morbidity were stained with monoclonal antipodoplanin and reviewed under light microscopy. Percentage of parenchyma podoplanin stained at the acinar level was determined using computerized image analysis; 9 CLD and 4 control subjects gestational ages 27 to 3

We present a case of congenital lymphedema in a 7-year-old boy in Sierra Leone with active filarial infection and penile edema. The genital edema with onset at 6 months of age may have been due to a congenital abnormality in lymphatic drainage. Other possible causes of childhood lymphedema, including Milroy's disease, are discussed.

Chylothorax, which accounts for 1% to 3% of pleural effusions, typically results from either surgery (traumatic) or underlying malignancy (nontraumatic). Less common causes of nontraumatic chylothorax are numerous and include congenital lymphatic abnormalities, connective tissue diseases, cirrhosis, and infection, among others.1 We describe what appears to be the first reported case of chylothorax caused by chylous ascites in Crohn disease. This case highlights the importance of using diagnostic evidence to link new symptoms to preexisting diseases whenever possible, as well as the systemic na…

Female of 17 years-old with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome: port-wine stain, overgrowth of bone and soft tissue in limbs, dental malposition and intellectual disability. Moreover, severe portal hypertension due to portal vein malformation. The Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome includes venous and capillary malformations in the skin, hypertrophy of bones and soft tissue in a limb and, in some patients, lymphatic malformations. Structural abnormalities of the deep venous system can also occur in addition to the key clinical features, although there are few case reports with portal hypertension due to porta

A 73-year-old female patient who had severe neuropathic pain due to sciatic nerve hypertrophy with the Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome has been presented. Localized hypertrophic neuropathy is in one region and characterized by concentric proliferation of Schwann cells around the axon. It is very rare in the absence of generalized hypertrophic neuropathy. Very little is known about the etiology and the course of this neuropathy. Klippel-Trenaunay-Syndrome (KTS) is a rare syndrome characterized by hemangioma, abnormalities of the venous and lymphatic systems, and limb enlargement due to soft tissue a

Chyluria mostly occurs because of the leakage of lymphatic fluid into the urinary system from the lymphatic system. The patient reported here with end-stage renal disease caused by the nephrotic syndrome underwent renal transplantation from a living donor. During the early posttransplant period, her daily urine output was 300 to 400 mL, and it was chylous. The only abnormality on physical examination was pretibial edema. On renal biopsy, there was no sign of glomerular disease, acute tubular necrosis, or rejection that could have caused delayed graft function. All factors except surgery were e

Interstitial lymphangiography performed with intradermal injection of a new nonionic dimeric contrast agent was used to examine 34 normal lower extremities and 35 lower extremities with proved lymphedema. An infusion pump was used to inject 2 mL of the contrast agent into the intradermal interdigital space at a rate of 0.1 mL/min. In all normal extremities, the injection deposit appeared homogeneous, and one to five lymph vessels could be identified. Diffusion of contrast agent into perilymphatic tissue occurred 30-40 cm proximal to the injection site; inguinal lymph nodes were, therefore, not
