BACKGROUND: Post-mastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) significantly reduces loco-regional recurrence and improves survival in breast cancer patients with node-positive or high-risk disease. The UK START trials established 40 Gy in 15 fractions as a safe and effective alternative to 50 Gy/25. The FAST-Forward trial later demonstrated non-inferiority of 26 Gy in 5 fractions, but only a minority of participants had undergone mastectomy. Limited prospective data exist for ultra-hypofractionated PMRT, particularly in the Indian setting, where shorter regimens could reduce patient and system burden.

PURPOSE: The development of breast cancer-related lymphedema (LE) is closely related to the number of dissected axillary lymph nodes (N-ALNs), chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. In this study, we attempted to estimate the risk of LE based on combinations of these treatment-related factors.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: A total of 772 patients with breast cancer, who underwent primary surgery with axillary lymph node dissection from 2004 to 2009, were retrospectively analyzed. Adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) was performed in 677 patients (88%). Among patients who received radiation therapy (n=675), 274

IMPORTANCE: Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is an aggressive variant for which trimodality treatment (ie, neoadjuvant systemic therapy [NST] followed by modified radical mastectomy without immediate reconstruction and postmastectomy radiotherapy [PMRT]) represents guideline-concordant care (GCC) and is associated with improved overall survival (OS). However, it is unclear whether there are disparities in trimodality treatment receipt among patients with IBC and how such disparities might affect OS.
OBJECTIVE: To assess trends in IBC trimodality treatment receipt in a contemporary cohort.

BACKGROUND: Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) is a rare and aggressive malignancy accounting for less than 0.2-1% of all breast cancers. MBC with osteosarcomatous differentiation is extremely rare (0.003%-0.12%) and presents significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 65-year-old female with history of breast-conserving surgery for left breast invasive carcinoma in 2021, who presented with a recurrent left breast mass in December 2025. After adjuvant therapy including ACT chemotherapy, radiotherapy and capecitabine, imaging revealed a 4.47 x 3.

BACKGROUND: Primary neuroendocrine carcinoma (small-cell carcinoma) of the breast is a rare tumor; most cases are reported in women. Small-cell carcinoma is a type of neuroendocrine tumor characterized by high-grade, poorly differentiated, and aggressive behavior, which are common features regardless of the tumor's location. Here, we present a rare case of primary small-cell carcinoma of the breast in a male patient treated successfully with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 47-year-old Syrian man presented with a left breast mass. Further histopathological in

Breast surgery with axillary dissection is traditionally performed under general anesthesia with positive-pressure ventilation. However, in patients with bullous chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), mechanical ventilation may increase the risk of barotrauma and pneumothorax. We report the case of a 75-year-old male with moderate COPD and a large pulmonary bulla who underwent modified radical mastectomy with axillary dissection using combined erector spinae plane and pectoral nerve block type II, associated with sedation and preservation of spontaneous ventilation. The procedure was co

Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) is a rare, heterogeneous group of neoplasm of breast, accounting for about 0.2-1% of all invasive breast carcinomas. Its variants include low grade adenosquamous carcinoma, fibromatosis like metaplastic carcinoma, spindle cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and mixed metaplastic carcinoma. We report a case of a 48 year old female, who presented with painful lump in lower inner quadrant of right breast since one and half month, gradually increasing in size. Trucut biopsy was reported as Fibromatosis of breast. Excisional biopsy was consistent with malignan

Pyomyositis is an uncommon clinical scenario; it is usually associated with predisposing factors, including poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, trauma history, and immunocompromise. We discuss the case of an elderly woman with a 20-year history of diabetes mellitus and remissive breast cancer after modified radical mastectomy and subsequent chemotherapy 28 years previously. The patient presented with severe shoulder pain and gradual swelling. After examination, pyomyositis was diagnosed and debridement surgery was performed. Culture of the wound samples showed the growth of Streptococcus agal

BACKGROUND: Secretory breast carcinoma is an uncommon subset of breast cancer that usually has a favorable outcome. Although initially described in children, it also occurs in adults where it may metastasize, possibly resulting in death. To date, only 20 cases of secretory breast carcinoma with distant metastases have been described.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 42-year-old female presented with liver metastasis after modified radical mastectomy of the left breast in 2008 at 34 years of age. The liver metastasis was morphologically similar to the primary tumor. Pan-TRK and Fluorescence in situ hybrid

A 33-year-old woman became aware of a right breast mass at her 28th week of pregnancy. From the biopsy results, we diagnosed her with right breast cancer. At her 33rd week of pregnancy, she underwent modified radical mastectomy (pT2N3aM0, Stage III C, ER-negative, PR-negative, HER2-positive), and she elected to receive adjuvant therapy after the surgery during her pregnancy. She received the first course of EC (epirubicin plus cyclophosphamide) therapy on the 13th postoperative day (35 weeks of gestation) and gave a natural, vaginal delivery at 36 weeks and 5 days of gestation. On the 4th day

We present a case of a 56-year-old female, with a familial history of breast, lung and brain cancer, which revealed a breast tumor, located in the upper outer quadrant of the left breast. During the routinely staging examinations, a 15 cm intrathoracic tumor was found in the upper left mediastinum, penetrating the pericardium and a smaller tumor, in the left side of parietal pleura. Core biopsies from both lesions, revealed a lobular carcinoma of the breast classic type, grade II (e-cadherin-, ER+, PR+, Her-2-, Ki-67 10%) and a B3 thymoma (CK19+, CD5+) penetrating the pericardium and the left

Skeletal muscle metastasis from breast cancer is a very rare clinical entity. We describe an extremely rare case of breast cancer metastasis to the rectus abdominis muscle. Our patient, who had undergone a left modified radical mastectomy for breast cancer four years ago, presented with a painful abdominal mass. Computed tomography scans showed a rim-enhancing mass with central hypoatennuation within the sheath of the rectus abdominis muscle. A Fine needle aspiration biopsy was initially performed and the findings were suggestive of malignancy. The muscle lesion was then resected and the histo

We present the diagnostic inaccuracies encountered in a case of multiple fibroadenoma with malignant transformation. A 30-year-old lady presented with lump in the right breast of one month duration which on clinical examination, X-ray mammogram, sonomammogram were suggestive of multiple fibroadenomas. Fine needle aspiration cytology of the largest lump revealed features of malignancy and a core biopsy showed pleomorphic cells that could not be categorized. Due to the clinical, radiological and pathological diagnostic ambiguity, lumpectomy was performed and frozen section showed features of onl

Meningiomas and breast cancers are common tumors among women in the fifth to seventh decade. However, metastasis from breast cancer to an intracranial meningioma is rare. A 63-year-old woman presented with headache, nausea and vomiting, and progressive right hemiparesis for one month. She had undergone a right modified radical mastectomy in another hospital 10 years prior. At that time, the pathological diagnosis was infiltrating ductal carcinoma. She required adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy for a local recurrence 7 years later. On admission to our hospital, cranial CT scans showed a br

We present asymptomatic right atrial myxoma in a patient with breast ductal adenocarcinoma. A 58-year-old female was referred to our clinic for the evaluation of the potential cardiotoxic side effects of anthracycline-based chemotherapy. She had a 10-month history of modified radical mastectomy for ductal adenocarcinoma of the breast, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. To evaluate potential side effects of anthracycline-based regimen, transthoracic echocardiography was performed, which showed a highly mobile, cystic, and heterogeneous mass, 20 x 25 mm in size, located in the right atrium. BACKGROUND: Four cycles of AC have been accepted as the standard chemotherapy in breast cancer. In the present randomized study we aimed to assess the efficacy of adjuvant etoposide + cisplatin (EP) combination following four cycles of standard adriamycin + cyclophosphamide (AC) in premenopausal patients with operable breast cancer and axillary lymph node metastasis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Premenopausal patients with positive axillary lymph nodes following curative modified radical mastectomy were randomized to either four cycles of AC (82 patients) or four cycles of AC + two cycles of EP (83

BACKGROUND: Multifocal and multicentric breast cancers are increasingly diagnosed due to advances in imaging. Although some degree of molecular heterogeneity between tumor foci is recognized, most multicentric tumors share similar biological profiles. The presence of synchronous multicentric breast cancer with completely opposing molecular phenotypes remains exceptional.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 67-year-old woman diagnosed with synchronous multicentric breast cancer of the left breast. One tumor focus showed a HER2-enriched phenotype (ER-negative, PR-negative, HER2-amplified

INTRODUCTION: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) of the breast is an extremely rare primary breast tumor. Between 1979 and June 2022, only 50 cases were reported. The pathological morphology and biological behavior of breast MEC remain poorly understood.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 47-year-old female was presented with a 10-day-old left breast mass detected by physical examination.
DIAGNOSES: Ultrasonography could not distinguish whether the breast tumor was benign or malignant. After a biopsy of a breast tumor excision specimen, combined with immunohistochemical results, the patient was diagnosed with
