[Translated article] Predictive factors of hospital and nursing facility admission in the fixation of low-energy ankle fractures.

INTRODUCTION: Ankle fractures are increasingly common in frail patients, with hospitalisation being the principal cost driver, particularly for the elderly who often need referral to nursing facilities. This study aims to identify factors affecting resource utilisation per admission (hospital and nursing) in the fixation of low-energy ankle fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study examined patients undergoing fixation for low-energy ankle fractures. The primary outcome was the length of hospitalisation. Secondary outcomes included delays in fixation and the need for r

Exploring Nursing Interventions for Depression Management in Patients with Cancer: A Scoping Review.

INTRODUCTION: Cancer diagnosis, which is linked to a poor prognosis, frequently triggers significant patient distress. This distress can culminate in depression and reduce quality of life (QoL), impacting patient outcomes and elevating cancer mortality rates. This study aimed to explore which nursing interventions for depression management among cancer patients have been assessed and their related outcomes for all types of cancer. METHODS: A scoping search was conducted from 2018 to 2023 across the four databases. Of the initial 549 studies identified, 34 met the inclusion criteria after elim

Socioeconomic Inequalities in the Transition to Nursing Home Care: Longitudinal Evidence from a Population Based Study in Switzerland.

Lower socioeconomic status (SES) is linked to earlier nursing home admission, but it is unclear if this remains true after accounting for health needs. This study examines SES-related inequalities in nursing home admission, controlling for health needs in an area of Switzerland with universal home-based care for older adults. Data were from the Lausanne Cohort 65+ study, including 3650 participants. SES was measured by education level, occupational class, and receiving means-tested benefits (a proxy for low income). Health needs were assessed with a set of physical and mental health variables.

Real requirements of nursing activities and patient-related factors related to nursing overload in an internal medicine department.

Adequate nursing care can be decisive for the outcome of a patient admitted to an internal medicine ward. Individual prediction of nursing activity at the time of a patient's admission could improve the work process. This study aimed to assess the objectively assessed nursing requirements of patients admitted to a medical setting and to identify clinical factors that correlate with high demands. This is a prospective and pragmatic observational study that enrolled patients admitted to the Internal Medicine ward at the Altovicentino Civil Hospital (Italy) between September 1 and December 31, 20
