Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most frequent cutaneous malignancy worldwide. This skin tumour is characterized by a broad phenotypic variability and distinct histopathological subtypes. It shows slow, locally invasive growth and only rarely metastasizes. BCCs can occur either sporadically or in the context of genetic syndromes, including Gorlin syndrome, Bazex-Dupré-Christol syndrome, Rombo syndrome, Oley syndrome and xeroderma pigmentosum. Different genes and signalling routes have been shown to play an important role in the development and growth of these tumours, including the hedgehog a

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is not only the most common cutaneous malignancy but also the most common form of cancer seen in all body. Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is the most important etiologic factor and thus BCCs occur most frequently on the sun-exposed areas of the body. Approximately 5-10% of BCCs occur in periocular region, especially, in lower eyelid and inner canthus. Despite this common occurrence, inner canthus is a relatively light-protected zone where UVR cannot easily access. Tear fluid is a known irritant of the skin. Prolonged exposure to tear in epiphora leads to chronic irritat

Currently, topical photodynamic therapy (PDT) has received approval for the treatment of dermato-oncologic conditions like actinic keratoses, Bowen's disease, in-situ squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma in many countries all over the world. For many non-neoplastic dermatological diseases like localized scleroderma, acne vulgaris and viral warts a therapeutical benefit of PDT is evident, too. Unlike the formerly used, only systemically-applicable haematoporphyrin derivates, the recently developed topical photosensitizers 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) or its methyl ester (MAL) induce

Granuloma faciale (GF) is a rare, benign, chronic inflammatory condition characterized by well-defined reddish-brown papules, nodules, or plaques, often demonstrating follicular accentuation and telangiectasia, which may be termed "peau d'orange." Typically, GF is localized to the facial area, but extrafacial variants have been reported, particularly on the trunk, scalp, and extremities. We report a 66-year-old male with a history of GF and multiple basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) who presented with a pearly plaque on the chest. Biopsy revealed extrafacial GF with a coincidental BCC, representing

Our understanding of how human skin cells differ according to anatomical site and tumour formation is limited. To address this, we have created a multiscale spatial atlas of healthy skin and basal cell carcinoma (BCC), incorporating in vivo optical coherence tomography, single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial global transcriptional profiling, and in situ sequencing. Computational spatial deconvolution and projection revealed the localisation of distinct cell populations to specific tissue contexts. Although cell populations were conserved between healthy anatomical sites and in BCC, mesenchymal ce

Skin cancer (SC) is one of the three most common cancers worldwide. Melanoma has the deadliest potential to spread to other parts of the body among all SCs. For SC treatments to be effective, early detection is essential. The high degree of similarity between tumor and non-tumors makes SC diagnosis difficult even for experienced doctors. To address this issue, authors have developed a novel Deep Learning (DL) system capable of automatically classifying skin lesions into seven groups: actinic keratosis (AKIEC), melanoma (MEL), benign keratosis (BKL), melanocytic Nevi (NV), basal cell carcinoma

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Pathology laboratories are required to determine or estimate the measurement uncertainty for all quantitative results, but there is no literature on the uncertainty in margin measurements for skin cancer excisions.
METHODS: Six pathologists measured 4-14 histological margins in each of 10 basal cell carcinoma.
RESULTS: The mean of measurements from all the margins from all the cases was 1.8 mm (range 0 and 6 mm). Regarding the overall variance in margin measurements across the ten cases, 25% was from variation within cases (differences in margin measurement for a given

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) also known as basalioma or basal cell cancer, is the most common skin cancer. BCC has a very low metastatic risk. This tumor can cause significant disfigurement by invading surrounding tissues. It occurs mainly in fair-skinned patients with a family history of this cancer. Sunlight is a factor in about two-thirds of these cancers. Standard surgical excision is the treatment of choice. Mohs micrographic surgery is an outpatient or inpatient procedure in which the tumor is surgically excised and then immediately examined under a microscope. Cryosurgery is an old modali

This is a case of a 72-year-old male whose chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a 2.0 x 1.6 cm anterior mediastinal solid tumor during follow-up of an abnormal shadow of the lung. The tumor increased its size during preoperative follow-up, and multilocular cyst was also observed. Radical thymectomy was performed, and histopathologically the tumor was diagnosed as thymic basaloid carcinoma. Thymic basaloid carcinoma is a rare tumor and is often associated with multilocular thymic cyst. There are only 32 cases reported both locally and internationally. Surgical resection is the general treatm

Salivary gland neoplasms (SGNs) represent a group of human neoplasms characterized by a remarkable cytomorphologic diversity, which frequently poses diagnostic challenges. Accurate histologic categorization of salivary gland tumors is crucial to make precise diagnoses and guide decisions regarding patient management. Within the scope of this study, a computer-aided diagnosis model using Vision Transformer (ViT), a cutting-edge deep learning model in computer vision, was developed to accurately classify the most prevalent subtypes of SGNs. These subtypes include pleomorphic adenoma, myoepitheli
