A rat brain tumor model has been developed with the clinical and pathological features of dissemination via the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) pathways. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between the extracellular matrix (ECM) and neoplastic progression in hamster with tongue cancer.
METHODS: Forty-eight specimens of hamster tongue cancer were divided into control group (n=6) and experimental group (n=42). The pathological grade of the specimens was assessed (including 3 stages, namely atypical hyperplasia, carcinoma in situ and early invasive carcinoma). The sections of the tongue were stained with Masson and aldehyde-fuchsin (AF) staining for microscopic observation of the elastic fiber and collagen fiber changes.

Carcinogens occur naturally in the foods we eat, including a number of HCAs that have been identified in foods (beef, pork, poultry and fish) as a result of cooking. These compounds are formed during the normal cooking process by the reaction of creatine with various amino acids. The HCAs have been identified as a result of their high mutagenic activity in the Ames test. Medulloblastomas, originating from cells of the internal granular layer of the cerebellum, developed in Syrian golden hamsters 3--6 months after inoculation at birth intracerebrally and sc with JC virus, a papovavirus isolated originally from a human case of the demyelinating disease progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. The lesion is compared with the human medulloblastoma of childhood. JC virus is the first infectious agent to produce such a neoplasm in any species.
