Squamous cell carcinoma of renal pelvis and percutaneous nephrolithotomy tracts after PCNL for staghorn calculus - point of surgical technique.

INTRODUCTION: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) comprises 0.5%-15% of tumours in the renal pelvis and ureter. SCC after percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for staghorn calculus is a rare entity with only five cases reported. Tumour spreading along the tract after PCNL is even more uncommon with only one case reported. We report a case of SCC of the renal pelvis and tract of PCNL extending upto skin over the flank and review the literature, demonstrate surgical technique. CASE REPORT: A 54-year-old gentleman was diagnosed with right pelvic staghorn lithiasis due to flank pain and confirmed on a n

Predictive accuracy of the modified SOFA score, SIRS criteria, and qSOFA score for uroseptic shock after mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

The purpose of this study was to determine the plausibility and utility of utilizing a modified SOFA (mSOFA) score for predicting uroseptic shock after mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy. A cohort of 707 patients who received mini-PCNL from August 2019 to December 2020 was retrospectively evaluated. The area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was used to compare the predictive value of septic shock between mSOFA, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and qSOFA. Among 707 patients, 24 patients experienced uroseptic shock after mini-PCNL. Compared with the no uroseptic

Small-bore catheter drainage of pleural injury after percutaneous nephrolithotomy: feasibility and outcome from a single large institution series.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: A well-known complication of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is pleural injury. Pneumothorax and hydrothorax sustained during PCNL may necessitate the placement of a chest tube. Current literature describes placement of standard chest tubes as well as small-bore catheters for management of hydrothorax sustained during PCNL. This study aims to better delineate the clinical utility and outcomes associated with use of small-bore catheters when compared with standard chest tubes for managing pneumothorax and hydrothorax after PCNL. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We queried an i

At present, percutaneous nephrolithotomy has become an option for hospitals increasingly to treat calculus. However, due to the certain risk of percutaneous nephrolithotomy, it may lead to postoperative complications. Analyzing the preoperative factors of septic shock after percutaneous nephrolithotomy can provide guidance for reducing the incidence of septic shock after PCNL. This article establishes a logistic regression model based on preoperative factors, uses statistical methods, and uses the professional statistical software SPSS to create a database and analyze the data. The method of c
