INTRODUCTION: The incidence of gastric cancer declined over the past decades. Recently, unfavorable trend breaks (i.e. rise in incidence) were seen for non-cardia cancer in younger age groups in the US. It is unclear whether these also occur in other Western countries. We analyzed the Q fever epidemic in the Netherlands on a national scale from a spatial point of view. Data on dairy goat farms and Dutch population, whether or not infected, were geo-referenced. Human cases were counted in GIS at different distance classes for all dairy goat farms, farms with Q fever based on BTM analysis, and farms with clinical symptoms. AIM: Sacral neuromodulation (SNM) plays a major part in the algorithm of management of faecal incontinence, but there are limited data on its cost-effectiveness. This study aimed to analyse this and the quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) associated with two different treatment algorithms. The first (SNM-) included use of an artificial sphincter [dynamic graciloplasty (DGP) (50%) and artificial bowel sphincter (ABS) (50%)]. In the Netherlands, most abortions of early pregnancies have been with electric vacuum aspiration (VA). A study was conducted on women's motivations for choosing surgical (VA) or medical abortion and extent of satisfaction with the method chosen. Information was also collected about the proportion of medical abortions to total abortions in the Netherlands and, for comparison, in some other European countries. We assessed the level and determinants of tetanus-antitoxin (TT)-antibodies in the Dutch population. Additionally, we evaluated the national guidelines for post-exposure prophylaxis. Serum samples and questionnaire data from a cross-sectional, population-based study were obtained from 7903 individuals. Serum antitoxin antibodies were assessed with a multiplex immunoassay.
