Thirty-five percent of 363 melanocytic nevi were found to have a keratotic epithelial architectural pattern that was mostly infundibular and not previously emphasized. Keratotic melanocytic nevi were commonly from the trunk of women, and most were associated with an intradermal melanocytic nevus. The clinical and histopathologic features as well as a review of the literature of these keratotic melanocytic nevi are presented.

The occurrence of a blue nevus of the hard palate in a 72-year-old man is reported. Of the 25 previously documented cases of blue nevus of the oral cavity, 19 were on the hard palate, three on the upper lip, and one each on the lower lip, buccal mucosa, and soft palate. Fourteen were in women and 11 were in men. All but five patients were younger than 50 years of age. The size of the asymptomatic, flat to somewhat elevated, blue-black lesion varied up to 5 mm except for one that was 10 mm in the greatest dimension. Most nevi were of unknown duration and were found incidentally during dental ex

Dysplastic nevus is a controversial category of melanocytic nevi. Formerly regarded as "formal histogenetic precursors of melanoma" or intermediate lesions in the progression of "common acquired nevi" to melanoma, dysplastic nevi are now considered to be benign melanocytic nevi that may simulate melanoma histopathologically. The dysplastic nevus is a very common type of melanocytic nevus. It is limited to the epidermis and papillary dermis, with the epidermal component extending beyond the dermal one; composed mostly of melanocytes with small, monomorphous nuclei; and also known as Clark's nev

The WHO classification of melanocytic skin tumours published in 2018 describes a new classification with nine different pathways based on molecular driver mutations, localization, clinical context and solar damage. The dichotomous concept of benign (nevus) versus malignant (melanoma) is replaced by a gradual concept starting with a benign nevus with progression into low to high grade intermediate melanocytic lesions, called melanocytoma, and ending at melanoma. The current European recommendation is (re-)excision with 2-5mm margin of low grade melanocytoma and with 5-10mm margin of high grade

PURPOSE: Acquired melanocytic nevi are common eyelid lesions; however, their clinical presentation is not well documented.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, clinical records were reviewed in patients evaluated between 2005 and 2022.
RESULTS: Eyelid margin nevi (n = 150) were more commonly excised in female (78%) and Caucasian (86%) patients. Change in appearance/size were frequent presenting complaints, and 17% experienced ocular symptoms. Referring diagnosis included other benign lesions (11.3%), and concern for malignancy (16.7%). Many individuals (38.7%) noted their lesion for ≤5 year

BACKGROUND: Choroidal naevi are a common incidental finding prompting specialist referrals to ocular oncology. Rarely, such lesions have sufficient suspicious features to diagnose a small melanoma. The aim of the study is to show that 'virtual' imaging-based pathways are a safe and efficient option to manage such referrals.
METHODS: A prospective cohort study at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital between June 2016 and July 2017 of the management decision of 400 patients reviewed by an ophthalmologist in a face-to-face consultation (gold standard) supported by fundus

A 25-year-old woman presented with a large area of flesh-colored verrucous plaques following the lines of Blaschko on the left side of the body that had been present since 6 months of age. The plaques had been stable and grew proportionately with the patient's body until she reached 20 years of age when they began to thicken and enlarge. Her medical and family history was unremarkable. A shave biopsy revealed a papillomatous epidermis with 3 discrete foci of acantholytic dyskeratosis, with corps ronds and grains that were similar to the histologic findings of Darier disease (DD). Epidermolytic

Cutaneous malignancies in the pediatric population are rare. Melanocytic neoplasms have garnered increased attention as the incidence of melanoma rises and as published analyses of biologically indeterminate lesions become more commonplace. Pediatric melanomas have been studied in several large cohort series; still, most of our assumptions for treatment stems from research in the adult population. Many clinicians speculate that pediatric melanomas may be biologically different from the same histological entity in adults given observed differences in metastatic potential and overall outcomes in
