Retrospective analysis of mini-implant assisted micro-osteoperforation for accelerating canine movement in adult orthodontics.

BACKGROUND: Traditional orthodontic treatment methods are associated with long treatment durations and patient discomfort. The mini-implant assisted micro-osteoperforation (MOP) has shown great potential in clinical practice, but systematic research on this technology remains limited. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 106 adult patients requiring extraction of both maxillary first premolars were conducted, with patients randomly grouped: experimental group (EG, mini-implant assisted MOP) and control group (CG, conventional orthodontic treatment), with 53 cases in each. Tooth movement dista

Effect of endodontically treated teeth on prosthetically guided orthodontics with clear aligners: a case series.

BACKGROUND: Prosthetically guided orthodontics (PGO) can correct the malocclusion for better prosthetic rehabilitation in esthetic rehabilitation. Unlike conventional orthodontic treatment, only minor tooth movement is designed in PGO according to the requirement of subsequent restoration. For better appearance during the treatment, PGO is often performed with clear aligners, which have no metal brackets. It has been proven that the PGO with clear aligners can achieve generally satisfactory outcomes. However, its risk has not been fully known due to the paucity of relevant studies. CASE PRESE…

Gingival Enlargement Associated with Orthodontics Appliance Increases Protein Carbonylation and Alters Phosphorylation of Salivary Proteome.

Gingival enlargement is a common clinical sign in the gingival diseases associated with orthodontic treatment. Its biological mechanisms are not completely understood; nevertheless, the biochemical changes associated with these inflammatory and overgrowth processes could alter the post-translational protein modifications occurring in various locations within the mouth. Here, changes in the profiles of the carbonylated and phosphorylated proteins in saliva were examined in donors with gingival enlargement (seven men and seven women) and healthy donors (six men and eight women). The sociodemogra

The value of adult orthodontics: Do the public's willingness-to-pay values reflect the profession's?

OBJECTIVE: To explore how the public and dental professionals would value an orthodontic service for adults by eliciting their willingness-to-pay (WTP), a standardised health economics technique which quantifies 'strength of preference' in monetary terms. Despite increasing demand, adults in the UK are only eligible for NHS orthodontic treatment if there is severe dental health or complex multidisciplinary need. Orthodontic services are provided to children aged under 18 years who are eligible by their Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) score. Consequently, many adults who may have a n

Effect of Magnet Position on Tipping and Bodily Tooth Movement in Magnetic Force-Driven Orthodontics.

The goal of our study is to launch magnetic force-driven orthodontics. This continuous study investigated the influence of magnet position on tipping and bodily tooth movement, using 3D printing technology and digital analysis. Orthodontic typodont models (TMs) for space-closure were 3D printed to mimic maxillary central incisors. Nd-Fe-B magnets were placed in the middle third (Model-M), and the cervical third (Model-C), of the tooth. TMs, before and after movement, were digitally scanned and superimposed. The 3D digital coordinates (X, Y, and Z axes), and rotations (yaw, pitch, and roll) of …

The effect of bisphosphonate medication on orthodontics and orthognathic surgery in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta.

Introduction: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disease that primarily affects bone formation and metabolism. Craniofacial malformations belong to the broad spectrum of the OI phenotype. The introduction of bisphosphonate medications was intended to counteract the significant brittleness of the bones of OI patients. In connection with the application of bisphosphonates, drug-associated osteonecrosis of the jaw has become known as an undesirable effect of the therapeutically intended reduction of osteoclast activity. Originally, the pharmacological inhibition of bone loss was mainly use
