PURPOSE: To evaluate the vestibulospinal reflex and vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) in patients with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) using posturography and the video head impulse test (vHIT).
METHODS: Sixty-five patients with CSOM and 65 healthy participants as controls were included. Patients with CSOM were instructed to complete the dizziness handicap inventory (DHI). All participants underwent otoscopy, pure-tone audiometry, posturography sensory organization test (SOT), and vHIT.

Eight hundred and two (802) primary school children in rural and urban Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, were examined to determine the prevalence of otitis media, hearing impairment and cerumen impaction by otoscopy and pure tone audiometry. Ear disease was found in 222 (27.7%) of the children. One hundred and twenty six (15.7%) had cerumen impaction, 70 (8.7%) had sensorineural hearing loss and 21 (2.6%) had chronic suppurative otitis media. Auditory brainstem responses (ABR) were recorded in 14 infants and toddlers and 12 school-age children with a previous history of recurrent otitis media with effusion (OME), or otoscopic and tympanometric evidence of persistent OME, or both. RATIONALE: Patulous Eustachian tube (PET) refers to condition where the Eustachian tube remains abnormally open or fails to close adequately, leading to autophony, aural fullness, breathing autophony, tinnitus, and hypernasality. We present the case of a patient with an inverted papilloma of the mastoid cavity secondary to cholesteatoma surgery. Luc abscess is an uncommon suppurative complication of otitis media. Unfamiliarity of this complication leads to delayed diagnosis and treatment. This abscess is usually benign. Infection in the middle ear spreads via anatomic preexisting pathways, and this process results with subperiosteal pus collection. Conservative treatment with drainage under empirical wide spectrum antibiotic is efficient.
