[Early isosexual precocious pseudopuberty revealing a juvenile granulosa cell tumor in a six-year-old girl].

Juvenile granulosa cell tumors of the ovary are a rare form of neoplasm that makes up less than 5% of ovarian tumors in childhood and adolescence. About 90% are diagnosed in stage I (FIGO) with a favorable prognosis, whereas those at higher stages have a less favorable outcome. The authors describe a juvenile granulosa cell tumor expressed by an early pseudopuberty occurring in a 6-year old child. Clinically, an endocrine syndrome was associated with a pelvic mass. Hyperoestrogenia and serum alphafoetoprotein level were biologically detected. Tumor was localized strictly to the ovary, so conse

Ovarian non-small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma with paraneoplastic parathyroid hormone-related hypercalcemia.

Ovarian tumors associated with hypercalcemia due to ectopic secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH) are extremely rare. A 33-year-old woman presented with a pelvic mass and profound hypercalcemia accompanied by an elevated serum level of PTH. Laparotomy demonstrated a left ovarian tumor that on histological examination was a neuroendocrine carcinoma of non-small cell type admixed with a component of endometrioid adenocarcinoma. After left salpingo-oophorectomy, the serum calcium and PTH levels normalized. The cells of the neuroendocrine carcinoma were positive for neuron-specific enolase, synap

Dysgerminoma in an Arabian filly.

A yearling Arabian filly was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital with a history of weight loss, profound anemia, and peritoneal effusion. At necropsy, a large, soft, mottled tan and red neoplastic mass was at the pelvic inlet replacing the left ovary. Additional tumor nodules of various sizes were disseminated throughout the mesentery, diaphragm, and serosal surfaces of the abdominal viscera. Histologically, the neoplasm had sheets of large round to polygonal cells separated into lobules by fibrous connective tissue with multifocal areas of necrosis. Tumor cells stained strong

A case of gonadal dysgenesis, breast development, Graves' disease, and low bone mass.

OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of XY gonadal dysgenesis with Tanner stage 4 breast development in the absence of a hormone-producing gonadal neoplasm and with Graves' disease and low bone mass. METHODS: The clinical features, laboratory results, and cytogenetic findings in the patient are presented, and the potential mechanisms of breast development are discussed. A MEDLINE search was performed, and related articles in the English-language literature published between 1955 and 2001 were reviewed. RESULTS: A 23-year-old African American woman was referred to the University of Louisville Hospit

Jejunal adenocarcinoma with isolated mesorectal metastasis: a case report of a rare entity.

Small bowel (SB) neoplasms are rare and often diagnosed at advanced stages, commonly presenting with obstruction or obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGB). An 83-year-old man presented with anemia and hematochezia. Imaging revealed an 8 cm SB mass and a 5 cm rectal lesion initially suggestive of GIST. Biopsy confirmed adenocarcinoma. Due to recurrent bleeding, the patient underwent segmental enterectomy and Hartmann's procedure. Histology showed jejunal mucinous adenocarcinoma with mesorectal metastasis (pT4N0M1). Despite adjuvant chemotherapy and hemostatic radiotherapy for pelvic recurrence

High-grade prostatic stromal sarcoma with a distinctive cystic-solid MRI pattern and aggressive clinical course: a case report.

OBJECTIVES: To report a rare case of high-grade prostatic stromal sarcoma (PSS) and delineate its characteristic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features to facilitate early detection and accurate diagnosis. METHODS: A 55-year-old male presented with progressive dysuria. Preoperative multiparametric pelvic MRI was performed. The imaging findings were correlated with histopathology from a robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. RESULTS: MRI revealed a large, well-demarcated, encapsulated cystic-solid mass within the prostate. The solid components showed restricted diffusion. The c

Mucinous Adenocarcinoma Arising in a Mature Ovarian Teratoma.

Malignant transformation of a mature cystic teratoma (MCT) is rare, with mucinous adenocarcinoma being an even more uncommon subtype. Accurate diagnosis requires distinction from metastatic gastrointestinal tumors. A woman in her 30s presented with a 19 cm right ovarian mass. She underwent exploratory laparotomy with right salpingo-oophorectomy, left ovarian cystectomy, omentectomy, peritoneal biopsies, and bilateral pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy with intraoperative rupture of the mass. Frozen section suggested immature teratoma, but final pathology revealed mucinous adenocarcinoma ar

Lumbar round cell sarcoma in a 10-week-old rottweiler puppy.

BACKGROUND: Spinal neoplasms are sparsely documented in juvenile dogs. Case reports and small case series have described nephroblastomas, primitive neuroectodermal tumours, gliomas, certain sarcomas, and osteochondromas, but round cell sarcomas have not previously been documented. CASE PRESENTATION: This case report describes a 10-week-old female Rottweiler puppy with acute onset of progressive ataxia and pelvic limb lameness. Neurological examination localised a T3-L3 myelopathy and MRI revealed an ovoid, well-marginated mass extending from mid L3 to caudal L4 vertebrae. Post-mortem examinat

[Erdheim-Chester disease associated with Langerhans cell histiocytosis: A case of a mixed form].

INTRODUCTION: Langerhans cell histiocytosis and Erdheim-Chester disease are rare inflammatory myeloid neoplasms. They present characteristic clinical, histological and radiological signs. Their association is exceptional. We report a new observation. OBSERVATION: A 47-year-old man presented with lesions of seborrheic dermatitis-like, intracranial hypertension, paralysis of the sixth cranial nerve, and central diabetes insipidus. The skin biopsy concluded that there was Langerhans cell histiocytosis. The bone scan showed metaphyseal-diaphyseal osteosclerotic lesions of the femur, tibia and hum

Vaginal malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor treated with complete surgical resection and postoperative radiation therapy.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are neoplasms originating from or differentiating into nerve sheaths of peripheral nerves. Vaginal origin is rare, with only six vaginal primary cases reported to date. A 55-year-old woman presented to our hospital with a 7 cm vulvar mass. Tumor biopsy results were suspicious of sarcoma, and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging and hysterofiberscopy showed that the tumor originated from the lower vagina. The mass was transvaginally excised, and histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a vaginal MPNST with negative surgical margins. The

A Case of Synchronous Malignant and Benign Granular Cell Tumor of the Vulva.

Granular cell tumors (GCT) are rare soft tissue neoplasms, which seldom occur in the vulva. They are more commonly benign, but malignant GCT do occur. We report a case of a 50-yr-old postmenopausal woman who presented with a vulvar lesion that was diagnosed as GCT on biopsy. Imaging and clinical examination revealed an enlarged, likely positive lymph node. Pathology of the subsequently resected total deep vulvectomy specimen showed 2 histologically distinct GCTs. The larger lesion met criteria for malignancy and histologically corresponded to metastatic deposits seen in the pelvic lymph nodes.

Coincidence or not? A rare case of rectal leiomyosarcoma amidst incidental findings of anal squamous cell carcinoma: case presentation and literature review.

Leiomyosarcoma accounts for only a small percentage of colorectal malignancies and remains a difficult disease to diagnose and treat. Here, we describe a case of leiomyosarcoma in a middle-age female first identified on colonoscopy. The cancer had invaded the posterior vaginal wall necessitating an abdominoperineal resection with partial vaginectomy and pelvic floor reconstruction with neovagina creation. Final pathologic analysis revealed invasion into the posterior vaginal wall without direct involvement of the vaginal squamous mucosa. Interestingly, a second carcinoma was found in the anal

Treatment of Severe Refractory Hematuria due to Radiation-Induced Hemorrhagic Cystitis with Dexamethasone.

Treatment of pelvic neoplasms with radiotherapy may develop sequelae, especially RHC. An 85-year-old male patient was admitted to a hospital emergency with gross hematuria leading to urinary retention and was diagnosed with RHC. The urinary bladder was probed, unobstructed, and maintained in continuous three-way saline irrigation. During 45 days of hospitalization, the patient underwent two cystoscopic procedures for urinary bladder flocculation, whole blood transfusions, and one platelet apheresis. None of these interventions led to clinical resolution. As the patient hematological condition …

Multimodality imaging of the postpartum or posttermination uterus: evaluation using ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging.

Postpartum and posttermination complications are common causes of morbidity and mortality in women of reproductive age. These complications can be broadly categorized into vascular, infectious, surgical, and neoplastic etiologies, or are due to ectopic implantation of placental or endometrial tissue. Causes of postpartum vascular complications include retained products of conception, arteriovenous malformation, and pseudoaneurysm. Infectious entities include endometritis, abscess, wound cellulitis, and pelvic septic thrombophlebitis. Postsurgical complications include uterine scar dehiscence,

Endoluminal sonographic imaging of upper urinary tract: three-dimensional reconstruction.

Two-dimensional endoluminal sonographic imaging of the ureter demonstrates the periureteral anatomy, as well as define lesions within the ureteral wall. It has been used for evaluation of a wide range of abnormalities, including ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstructions, crossing vasculature at an obstructed UPJ, ureteral and renal pelvic neoplasms, and the obstructed ureter. Three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of two-dimensional (2D) sonographic imaging is a new technique applicable to intraluminal imaging. It offers advantages over 2D imaging by demonstrating the spatial relation of anatom…

Mayo Clinic classification of presacral tumors: evolution of classifications and systematic review of pathologies.

BACKGROUND: Presacral tumours are rare, heterogeneous lesions. Historical classification systems for presacral tumours have provided a valuable framework, but were based on limited available data. This study aimed to develop a contemporary classification aligned with current tumour entities and clinical practice. METHODS: A prospectively registered systematic review of surgically managed presacral tumours published from 1975 to 2025 was combined with a retrospective multisite institutional surgical pathology review from 1986 to 2025. Pathological descriptors were extracted, cross-referenced,

[Recognition of empty pelvic syndrome and its prevention and treatment].

With the development of existing surgical techniques, equipment and treatment concepts, more and more medical centers begin to carry out extensive resection for recurrent pelvic malignant tumors or those with multivisceral invasion. Exenteration may facilitate curative resection and improve the outcome of the patients. Therefore, pelvic exenteration has gradually become the standard of care for locally advanced pelvic malignancies. At present, pelvic exenteration leads to high intraoperative and postoperative complications and mortality, and therefore compromise the safety and long-term qualit
