This is a case of an 8 year-old boy who suffered a severe road traffic accident (RTA) with multiple fractures of the pelvis and right femur together with rupture of the urethra. After initial stabilization, he presented one month later with a large pseudoaneurysm of the left internal iliac artery. The patient underwent successful laparotomy, evacuation of the hematoma and ligation of the injured internal iliac artery. (Ann Thorac Cardiovasc Surg 2003; 9: 337-9)

MR imaging is well suited to evaluation of the pelvis. Ultrasonography remains the study of choice for the initial evaluation of a suspected gynecologic mass. MR imaging and computed tomography remain problem-solving tools that can help to characterize masses and stage gynecologic malignancies. MR imaging has the advantage of higher soft tissue contrast compared with computed tomography. This article reviews the MR findings of congenital anomalies and masses of the adnexa and uterus in adolescent girls.

We describe a case of renal leiomyoma in a 21-year-old woman who presented with flank pain and hematuria. Urographic and computed tomographic (CT) studies revealed a large right renal mass with polypoid outgrowth protruding into the renal pelvis. Cortical renal leiomyoma with this radiographic manifestation is extremely rare.

A woman aged 45 years who had undergone laparoscopic cholecystectomy a little over one year previously complained of progressive dysmenorrhoea, dyspareunia and disorder of the cycle; she also had palpable nodules in the recto-uterine pouch. At vaginal hysterectomy, 15 gallstones were found in the recto-uterine and vesicouterine pouches. Problems of radiological diagnosis in cases of gallstones in the true pelvis after laparoscopic cholecystectomy have been reported before.

Twenty-one patients (27 ureters) with pelvis-ureter junction stricture were treated by persistent dilatation with indwelling double J stent in the ureter. The double J stents were inserted by means of retrograde cystoscopic approach. The duration of stents left in the ureters was 3 approximately 12 months. Follow-up for 5 approximately 36 months after removed the double J stents showed the extinction of the symptoms, remission of the hydropyonephrosis and improvement of the renal function. A 54-year-old women reported recurrent pain in one side. Radiological and ultrasonographic examination revealed a mass in the left renal pelvis and the lower calyx. With percutaneous calycopyeloscopy keratinous fragments of a cholesteatoma were found and extracted during the same procedure. Up to now, malignant degeneration of a cholesteatoma has never been reported in the literature. Therefore, a conservative surgical treatment is acceptable.

9 healthy volunteers were examined by magnetic resonance imaging in order to describe the anatomy of the normal female genital tract as seen by this technique. The visualization of the bony and pelvic skeleton and the muscles surrounding these structures is excellent. Mucus-secreting adenocarcinoma of the renal pelvis is an extremely rare tumor. It arises from multipotential transitional epithelium which is capable of undergoing metaplastic transformation when subjected to chronic irritation from calculi, hydronephrosis, or pyelonephritis. Women are affected slightly more often than men. Tumor invasion implies a poor prognosis. Long-term survival occurs but is infrequent. In the case reported, preoperative angiography yielded useful diagnostic information.
