Clinico-pathogenetical features of the acute period of trauma disease due to a severe combined injury were studied in 644 patients. An analysis of clinical indices was made in 428 of them, clinico-laboratory indices--in 216 patients. The results have shown that the main form of the acute period of the trauma disease are traumatic shock (62.8%), traumatic coma (18.3%), acute respiratory insufficiency (5.7%). Sixteen infants who presented with symptoms suggestive of gastroesophageal reflux (GER)-associated apnea were evaluated at the Breathing Disorder Center of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. These neonates had a history of occasional emesis and an apparent life-threatening event (ALTE) that occurred while awake which was similar to the presentation of a group of infants previously described. Evaluation of the present group of infants however, revealed increased periodic breathing (12.1 +/- 1.8 SEM% of total sleep time) as opposed to the obstructive apnea that was typically seen with GER.

OBJECTIVE: There is paucity of reports on thyrotoxic periodic paralysis (TPP) from India. We report the patients with TPP and compare them with idiopathic hypokalemic periodic paralysis (IHPP).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with hypokalemic periodic paralysis (HPP) treated during the past 11 years were evaluated retrospectively. PFAPA is a periodic fever syndrome characterized by: fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis and cervical adenitis. It is one of the autoinf … one to two doses, 9 patients responded immediately after the first dose and all experienced a lower periodicity of attacks. PFAPA is the most frequent periodic fever syndrome. To our knowledge, there are no other local series of PFAPA patients published. Recognizing this syndrome will prevent from ordering unnecessary studies and will favor family coping.

During this period, fatal poisonings from analgesics almost doubled to 200 deaths per year (40% of all drug related deaths in Denmark). It usually has a childhood onset and is characterized with recurrent attacks with irregular intervals.
