Measurement Invariance of the Pathological Narcissism Inventory and Multimethod Examination of Narcissistic Presentations in Community and Clinical Samples.

The Pathological Narcissism Inventory (PNI) is extensively used in recent empirical literature on pathological narcissism. However, most studies using the PNI are community-based, and no studies have used the PNI to investigate narcissistic presentations in personality disordered patients. This study investigates measurement invariance of the PNI in community participants and patients with personality disorders, and examines differences of narcissistic presentations in these samples through a multimethod approach. Results show that the PNI can be used reliably to measure and compare traits of

[Personality traits in depressive adolescents (diagnosis and prognosis].

The youthful depressions without psychotic symptoms are very similar in respect to syndrome appearance that makes it difficult to elucidate their nosologic origin and prognosis. To differentiate a diagnosis, psychodiagnostic methods--Cloninger personality inventory (TCI-125) and Raine Schizotypic Personality Questionnaire (SPQ-74)--were administered, along with clinico-psychopathological approach, in 144 patients with depression, aged 16-25 years. The data obtained allowed to detect statistically significant personality traits corresponding to 3 nosologic groups: slow progressive schizophrenia…

Personality prototypes in individuals with compulsive buying based on the Big Five Model.

Personality prototypes based on the Big Five factor model were investigated in a treatment-seeking sample of 68 individuals with compulsive buying (CB). Cluster analysis of the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) scales yielded two distinct personality clusters. Participants in cluster II scored significantly higher than those in cluster I on neuroticism and lower on the other four personality traits. Subjects in cluster II showed higher severity of CB, lower degree of control over CB symptoms, and were more anxious, interpersonally sensitive and impulsive. Furthermore, cluster II was characte

Self-reported early trauma as a predictor of adult personality: a study in a military sample.

Exposure to early trauma has frequently been linked to adult psychopathology, including personality disorders. This cross-sectional study explored the relationship between personality and retrospectively rated levels of early trauma in 242 soldiers. Multiple regression analyses showed a significant relationship between early trauma and adult personality as exposure to emotional trauma predicted levels of self-directedness and cooperativeness on the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI; C. R. Cloninger, T. R. Przybeck, D. M. Svrakic, & R. D. Wetzel, 1994). Overall, these results suggest tha

The authors evaluated the relationship between P. T. Costa and R. R. McCrae's (1992) NEO 5-factor model, C. R. NEO Neuroticism was associated with many disorders, and different patterns for Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Extraversion emerged for the different disorders. Several TCI scales were associated with diffe

Psychological profile in burning mouth syndrome.

Thirty-two patients with burning mouth syndrome and 32 matched control subjects were evaluated for their personality profile using a comprehensive, reliable, and validated inventory. All subjects were requested to complete the Neo PI-R questionnaire that measures the 5 dimensions of personality and their facets. A t-test and univariate correlations (Pearson's correlation coefficient) were used to compare the 2 groups. Results show high significant differences in some personality factors. Neuroticism and all its facets, which include anxiety, angry hostility, depression, self-consciousness, imp

Phenomenological overlap of multiple personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Three patients with multiple personality disorder and three with obsessive-compulsive disorder were compared on a variety of self-report measures and on two structured interviews. Amytal Sodium interviews had been conducted on the obsessive patients; alter personality-like entities claiming responsibility for the obsessions and compulsions were contacted in two patients. The one obsessive patient with no alter personality differed markedly from the other five on the SCL-90, the Lynfield Inventory, and the Dissociative Experiences Scale. Structured interviews with the Anxiety Disorders Intervie

The convergent and discriminant validity of the MCMI as a measure of the DSM-III personality disorders.

The personality scales of the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI) were constructed and validated to measure the typology developed by Millon (1981). The ability of the MCMI to measure the DSM-III personality disorders has not yet been empirically evaluated. The current study found better convergent validity for the DSM-III personality disorders that are consistent with Millon's typology (i.e., the avoidant and the dependent) than for the disorders that are inconsistent (i.e., the antisocial and the passive-aggressive). However, the results may reflect some advantages Millon's typology

The hysterical personality. An attempt at validation with the MMPI.

We attempted to validate the DSM-II diagnosis of hysterical personality and the depression often experienced by such patients by comparing mean Minnesota Multiphasic Personality inventory (MMP) scores of hysterical personality patients with those of paranoid schizophrenic patients and a group with mixed psychiatric diagnoses. Index patients had significantly higher scores than either control group and could be distinguished on individual scales from the paranoid schizophrenics. However, the mean MMPl profile of hysterical personalities was similar to that of depressed controls. Therefore, the …
