Detecting causes of pulsatile tinnitus on CT arteriography-venography: A pictorial review.

Pulsatile tinnitus (PT) can be a mild or debilitating symptom. Following clinical examination and otoscopy, when the underlying aetiology is not apparent, radiological imaging can be used to evaluate further. CT arteriography-venography (CT A-V) of the head and neck has recently been introduced as a single 'one catch' modality for identifying the many causes of PT including those which are treatable and potentially serious whilst also providing reassurance through negative studies or studies with benign findings. CT A-V is performed as a single phase study allowing both arterial and venous ass

[Technological diagnosis of venous thrombosis].

The bedside diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis is not accurate enough to implement invasive therapy, e.g., systemic administration of thrombolytic agents, so the diagnosis must be established by independent diagnostic means. The most useful diagnostic tests available include Doppler ultrasound, duplex sonography, color duplex sonography, and contrast venography. The common femoral vein and popliteal vein can be examined easily with a Doppler ultrasound probe. Reduced blood flow due to major venous thrombosis proximal or distal to the probe, qualitative blood flow and flow direction are all de

Distribution of thrombosis in patients with symptomatic deep vein thrombosis. Implications for simplifying the diagnostic process with compression ultrasound.

BACKGROUND: Two different diagnostic strategies are used to perform compression (real-time) ultrasound for the diagnosis of clinically suspected deep-vein thrombosis. One is to examine the entire proximal venous system from common femoral to distal popliteal vein; the other is a limited examination of only the common femoral and the entire popliteal vein. The latter strategy, which is less time-consuming and requires less expensive equipment, is based on a strong impression from prospective studies using limited compression ultrasound that proximal vein thrombi always involve the common femora

Deep vein thrombosis in an adolescent.

We report an unusual case of deep vein thrombosis following minor trauma in an adolescent who presented with a swollen, tender, lower extremity. Work-up consisted of a venogram which demonstrated occlusion of the deep venous system in the proximal leg. The patient was hospitalized for intravenous heparin followed by oral anticoagulation therapy. The problem of deep venous thrombosis in adolescents and the approach to diagnosis are discussed.

Deep vein thrombosis: a perspective on anatomy and venographic analysis.

Pulmonary thromboembolism affects 750,000 Americans annually. DVT is the primary origin of PE, which results in approximately 150,000 patien … 00 U of heparin mixed in 150 mL of physiologic saline should be used to reduce the incidence of postphlebography DVT. Positive venographic signs of DVT include filling defect, cutoff, nonvisualization, and collateralization.

[Clinical studies of varicocele. 2: Radiographic examination and measurement of spermatic vein pressure in varicocele patients].

There are two types of internal spermatic veins (ISV) by radiographic examinations. In type 1, ISV is dilated with some collateral venous branches. On the other hand, ISV of type 2 is narrowed with increased collateral venous branches or abnormalities such as the circumaortic renal are seen. In these groups, pressure of renal vein and ISV were measured. As a result, renal vein pressure was about the same in type 1 as in the controls at 9.5 +/- 2.3 cmH2O but was higher in type 2 at 17.0 +/- 2.8 cmH2O. As for ISV, it was also about the same in type 2 as in the controls at 13.9 +/- 6.8 cmH2O but

Venography of the left internal spermatic vein in patients with fertility problems.

A varicocele testis is frequently observed in males with fertility problems. The varicocele is caused by retrograde blood flow in the internal spermatic vein, as a rule on the left. This retrograde flow is also considered to be the main contributing factor causing infertility. Retrograde flow in the left internal spermatic vein may exist even if no varicocele is palpable during physical examination. Venography of the internal spermatic vein is helpful in detecting this retrograde flow and may also demonstrate a varicocele. Varicoceles occur predominantly on the left side (90%). The investigati
