Mirror Exposure Training for Adolescents With Anorexia Nervosa (MIRADAN): Cognitive Mechanisms of Body Disturbance - A Study Protocol.

BACKGROUND: Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is a severe mental illness, which typically develops in adolescence and, if left untreated, often becomes chronic. Body dissatisfaction is a core characteristic of AN. Mirror exposure (ME) is an effective therapeutic technique to tackle body dissatisfaction in adult patients with eating disorders, but there is limited evidence for the effects of ME in adolescence. One potential mechanism underlying effects of ME on body dissatisfaction is change in body-related attention bias. However, this mechanism remains to be empirically tested. Accordingly, the aim of th

Prostate biopsy sepsis prevention: external validation of an alcohol needle washing protocol.

PURPOSE: Transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy (TRUS-Bx) is associated with a 1-8% risk of post-biopsy sepsis (PBS). A recent study described an isopropyl alcohol needle washing protocol that significantly decreased PBS rates. The current study examined the efficacy of this technique in our clinic population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data were reviewed for 1250 consecutive patients undergoing TRUS-Bx at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center from January 2017 to January 2023. Needle washing was adopted in February 2021. Complications occurring within 30 days after TRUS-Bx were recorded.

Corrective kissing balloon inflation for a suboptimal optical coherence tomography result after POT-side-POT: An OCT sub-analysis of the randomized CRABBIS trial.

BACKGROUND: In the randomized CRABBIS trial, a proximal optimization technique (POT)-kissing-POT (PKP) sequence gave a better optical coherence tomography (OCT)-defined stent geometry than POT-Side-POT (PSP) in large bifurcations. Whether a suboptimal PSP result can be corrected during the same procedure is unknown. METHODS: In this pre-specified OCT sub-analysis, a suboptimal post-PSP result (minimal stent area < 90% of reference and/or malapposition) was corrected with kissing-balloon inflation and final POT. Stent geometry before and after correction was compared across four segments and w

Analgesic efficacy and safety of transversus abdominis plane block in women undergoing cesarean delivery: An umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Intrathecal morphine (ITM) remains the benchmark for post-cesarean analgesia but is frequently associated with opioid-related adverse effects. Regional analgesia techniques such as transversus abdominis plane block (TAPB) are increasingly used as an opioid-sparing alternative. Multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SRMAs) have evaluated TAPB efficacy, yet findings remain fragmented, heterogeneous, and methodologically inconsistent. This umbrella review synthesizes and critically appraises the highest-level evidence on the analgesic efficacy and safety of TAPB after cesarean delivery (C

A systematic review and meta-analysis of thoracic epidural analgesia versus other analgesic techniques in patients post-oesophagectomy.

BACKGROUND: Oesophageal cancer surgery represents a high perioperative risk of complications to patients, such as postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs). Postoperative analgesia may influence these risks, but the most favourable analgesic technique is debated. This review aims to provide an updated evaluation of whether thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) has benefits compared to other analgesic techniques in patients undergoing oesophagectomy surgery. Our hypothesis is that TEA reduces pain scores and PPCs compared to intravenous opioid analgesia in patients post-oesophagectomy. METHODS:

Enhancing Relationship-Centered Communication and Feedback in Emergency Medicine Through Applied Improvisation (EM-PROV).

AUDIENCE: This small group session is intended for emergency medicine residents, medical students, and faculty. INTRODUCTION: Improvisational techniques offer a novel and effective approach to teaching relationship-centered communication (RCC) and enhancing learner feedback in emergency medicine (EM).1 Improvisational theater (improv) is a form of spontaneous performance where all things or most things are made up on the spot. The "yes, and" principle-accepting a partner's idea ("yes") and building upon it ("and")-reflects core improv values such as affirmation, spontaneity, active listening,

Understanding the impact of perineal reconstruction after extended margin cancer surgery on longer-term quality of life, morbidity and health economic outcomes: protocol for the UK REMACS observational cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Advanced and recurrent pelvic cancers pose significant public health challenges due to their invasive nature, affecting pelvic structures like the pelvic floor, other organs and the perineum. Treatment involves chemoradiotherapy followed by extended margin cancer surgery (EMCS) to achieve cancer cure. EMCS results in an empty pelvis prone to major complications like collections, abscesses, bowel obstruction, fistulae and perineal wound breakdown. Known as the empty pelvis syndrome (EPS), this affects >50% of patients. EPS leads to poor quality of life (QoL), reduced return to fun

Flapless Graft-Free Sinus Floor Elevation Simultaneously with the Placement of a Dental Implant "Aldary Technique": A Case Report with 5 Years Follow-Up.

Following the extraction of a tooth, the alveolar bone undergoes resorption, impacting the remaining bone volume. This phenomenon is particularly pronounced in the posterior upper jaw region, where the bone surrounding the extraction site undergoes physiological transformation, and potential pneumatization of the maxillary sinus. Consequently, there is a reduction in available bone volume and height. Various methods have been described in literature to address this issue. Two main scientifically based techniques for sinus lift are extensively studied and established today, each suitable for sp

FEM analysis of the mandibular first premolar with different post diameters.

Several reports have pointed out that endodontically treated teeth can lack strength, and that the teeth can be reinforced using posts. However, it has not been clear how to select posts that meet the needs of most clinical situations, particularly in terms of the post diameter, which has a major influence on the occurrence of root fracture. The purpose of this study was to analyze the stress distributions of posts of various diameters during masticatory loads using a finite element method. A 3-dimensional (3D) finite element model of a lower first premolar was developed. We used the image sof

Quantitative cardiovascular magnetic resonance: extracellular volume, native T1 and 18F-FDG PET/CMR imaging in patients after revascularized myocardial infarction and association with markers of myocardial damage and systemic inflammation.

BACKGROUND: Characterization of tissue integrity and inflammatory processes after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) using non-invasive imaging is predictive of patient outcome. Quantitative cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) techniques such as native T1 and extracellular volume (ECV) mapping as well as 18F-FDG positron emission tomography (PET) imaging targeting inflammatory cell populations are gaining acceptance, but are often applied without assessing their quantitative potential. Using simultaneously acquired PET/CMR data from patients early after AMI, this study quantitatively compar

Re-examining the comorbidity between borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder: a systematic narrative review.

BACKGROUND: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) frequently co-occur, yet research on this comorbidity is limited. Recent advancements in this area have led to the emergence of new studies that provide insight into the relationship between these disorders, potential treatment interventions, and the ongoing debate surrounding the diagnosis of Complex PTSD. This review aims to examine these findings and evaluate whether they address key gaps identified in the review by Frías & Palma (Psychopathology 48(1):1–10, 2014). METHODS: A literature search was co

Efficacy of Magnetic Seizure Therapy in Patients with Schizophrenia and Combined fMRI-EEG to Explore the Regulatory Mechanisms of Brain Networks.

BACKGROUND: Magnetic Seizure Therapy (MST) is an emerging psychiatric physical therapy in recent years, and the MST technique induces seizures by stimulating the local cortex. Numerous studies have shown that compared to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), magnetic shock therapy (MST) has relatively little effect on cognitive function, and thus has certain advantages in clinical application. However, as far as magnetic shock therapy itself is concerned, there are few studies specifically focusing on its efficacy in depth, and the mechanism of MST in treating schizophrenia is still unclear. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation using coplanar and cuspal overlap techniques in Indian patients.

INTRODUCTION: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) techniques gradually evolved since 2002 and have undergone various refinements. Achieving optimal implantation depth has become crucial for good long term outcome. High implantation decreases the likelihood of conduction disturbances. Conventionally TAVI valve is positioned in a tricusp coplanar (CON) fluoroscopic projection however it does not ensure a optimal implantation. In an attempt to attain higher implantation(3 mm) and decrease rate of permanent pacemaker, cuspal overlap technique (COT) view has been developed. There is scar
