Experiential Avoidance and Bordering Psychological Constructs as Predictors of the Onset, Relapse and Maintenance of Anxiety Disorders: One or Many?

To investigate (a) the incremental predictive validity of experiential avoidance over and above bordering psychological constructs (i.e., rumination, worry, neuroticism and anxiety sensitivity) in predicting onset, relapse and maintenance of anxiety disorders; and (b) whether these related constructs can be represented by a single, higher-order latent factor with similar predictive power as the separate psychological constructs while offering a more parsimonious predictive model. Longitudinal cohort study with repeated assessments after 4 years in a sample of 2157 adults aged 18-65, consisting

Trust, Participation, and Power: Community Perspectives from the Equity in Public Health Initiative.

Health disparities arise from unequal power relations shaping resource allocation, governance, and community agency. Community power is a key mechanism for addressing disparities. This study examines how visible, hidden, and invisible power operate within a U.S. county to inform inclusive governance. We conducted seven focus groups with Black and Hispanic residents (n = 68) and sixteen semi-structured interviews with elected officials, government staff, and advocacy leaders in Greenville County, South Carolina. Data were collected between March and December 2024. Transcripts were collaborative

Empowering women, strengthening support: a quality improvement project to enhance pelvic floor health awareness.

Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is a prevalent yet under-recognised condition among obstetric women, often presenting as urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Despite evidence supporting pelvic floor muscle training as an effective first-line management strategy, awareness and service utilisation remain suboptimal. This quality improvement project, conducted at Singapore General Hospital, aimed to enhance PFD awareness among obstetric patients and nursing staff and to increase physiotherapy uptake from a baseline of 0% to 50% within 6 months.The comprehensive root cause analysis ident

Diabetes empowerment and needs for self-management support among people with type 2 diabetes in a rural inland community in northern Sweden.

BACKGROUND: Self-management among people with T2D includes being responsible for attaining a blood sugar level within the normal range, eating healthy food, exercising and following prescriptions for medication, something that may need support. In rural areas, access to health care may be limited, and support from family members becomes important. AIM: The aim of this study was to describe perceptions and associations of diabetes empowerment, self-management ability and needs of self-management support among people with T2D in a northern rural community of Sweden. METHOD: People with T2D (n

The dark side of family communication: a communication model of elder abuse and neglect.

To further address the potential factors that lead up to elder abuse in domestic settings, this paper proposes a model from a communication approach to explain dyadic influences between the family caregiver and the elderly care receiver that give rise to the abuse. That is, dysfunctional communication between the caregivers and care receivers may, therefore, increase the likelihood of elder abuse. Grounded in Bugental and her colleagues' work (1993, 1999, 2002) on child abuse, we propose a power-oriented communication model based, in part, on research in the fields of family violence and inter

Health care's new behemoths.

Merger mania has been sweeping the insurance industry for years; what's raising eyebrows these days is the sheer pace of consolidation and the startling size of the plans being created. What are the implications of these megaplans for hospitals and for health care in general? As their clout in the marketplace increases, so does the scrutiny they're coming under.

The role of personality disorder in 'difficult to reach' patients with depression: findings from the ODIN study.

Individuals with personality disorders (especially paranoid personality disorder) tend to be reluctant to engage in treatment. This paper aimed to elucidate the role of personality disorder in predicting engagement with psychological treatment for depression. The Outcomes of Depression International Network (ODIN) involves six urban and three rural study sites throughout Europe at which cases of depression were identified through a two-stage community survey. One patient in seven who was offered psychological treatment for depression had a comorbid diagnosis of personality disorder (most commo

MIND-T1D: study protocol for a multidimensional neurocognitive and psychological assessment of Indian children and young adults with type 1 diabetes.

BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) is increasingly recognised to affect neurodevelopmental, cognitive and psychological functioning in children and young adults. Existing studies have largely evaluated biological, cognitive and psychological domains separately, and neuropsychological approaches suitable for multilingual and resource-constrained settings remain limited. This paper describes the MIND-T1D protocol, a culturally sensitive, clinically feasible, family-centred assessment framework for Indian children and young adults with T1D. The protocol addresses language-related barriers

Breaking the anxious cycle of self-criticism: Action orientation buffers the detrimental effects of a self-critical personality style.

BACKGROUND: A self-critical personality style has been associated with psychological symptoms such as depression and anxiety. Self-critical people also tend to strive more anxiously for basic motives such as affiliation, achievement, power, and autonomy. This anxious motive enactment mediates the relationship between self-critical style and psychological symptoms that may, in turn, reinforce self-criticism. The present study examines whether action orientation (i.e., a high self-regulatory ability) offers a way out of this anxious cycle and buffers the detrimental effects of self-criticism. M
