Assessing large language models in radiation risk communication: susceptibility, cultural-linguistic effects, and ethical reasoning.

PURPOSE: To assess the extent to which large language models (LLMs) amplify or attenuate inaccurate or contested narratives in radiation contexts and to evaluate their potential influence on public risk perception, patient communication in radiotherapy, and radiation protection policy implementation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We developed a structured framework to extract agreement and sentiment from LLMs. This was applied to OpenAI's GPT family of models to examine susceptibility to strong or misframed radiological opinions, cultural and linguistic bias on controversial radiological topics, and

High prevalence of bronchiectasis in adults: analysis of CT findings in a health screening program.

Bronchiectasis is one of the common chronic respiratory diseases and associated with respiratory morbidity and mortality. However, neither its prevalence nor its etiology is well-defined. We aimed to estimate the prevalence and risk factors of bronchiectasis in adults. In a retrospective study, we analyzed radiologic findings on chest computed tomography (CT) images performed as part of a health-screening program. From January to December 2008, 1,409 (24.6%) of 5,727 participants in the screening program of a health promotion center at a university hospital underwent chest CT scans based on th

Metabolic bone disease in extremely preterm infants: incidence, risk factors, and outcomes from a structured bone health program.

BACKGROUND: Metabolic bone disease (MBD) of prematurity is a common disorder in extremely preterm and extremely low-birth-weight (ELBW) infants. However, regional data on this disorder from the Middle East are limited. We evaluated the incidence, risk factors, biochemical markers, and outcomes of MBD in infants born at <28 weeks of gestation and <1,000 g. METHODS: Our retrospective cohort included 487 inborn preterm infants admitted to a tertiary NICU (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; 2017-2024). MBD was defined as PTH >18 pmol/L at 4 weeks; ROC against radiographic osteopenia showed good discrimination

Spinal Stenosis: An Emerging Complication of Ageing in People With Haemophilia.

INTRODUCTION: Advances in haemophilia care have brought the challenges of ageing for people with haemophilia (PWH) to the forefront. Age-related spinal degeneration may result in spinal stenosis; however, the rates in PWH are unknown. We sought to systematically review Irish PWH to address this gap in the current literature. METHODS: Clinical and radiological notes of all patients ≥40 years old (yo) registered with severe or moderate haemophilia A or B were reviewed, recording Haemophilia Joint Health Scores (HJHS), radiological imaging and orthopaedic/pain interventions. RESULTS: Of 100 mal

Exposure of the French paediatric population to ionising radiation from diagnostic medical procedures in 2010.

BACKGROUND: Medical examination is the main source of artificial radiation exposure. Because children present an increased sensitivity to ionising radiation, radiology practices at a national level in paediatrics should be monitored. OBJECTIVE: This study describes the ionising radiation exposure from diagnostic medical examinations of the French paediatric population in 2010. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data on frequency of examinations were provided by the French National Health Insurance through a representative sample including 107,627 children ages 0-15 years. Effective doses for each type o

Advancing Cultural Competency in Allied Health Education: A Narrative Review.

As the U.S. population becomes increasingly diverse, allied health care providers must be equipped to deliver culturally competent and equitable care. While nursing education has long emphasized cultural competence, its integration into allied health disciplines varies. This narrative review synthesizes evidence from 2015 to 2025, examining three main approaches to cultural competence training in allied health education: cultural immersion, didactic coursework, and workshops or simulations. The findings suggest that no single strategy is sufficient. Cultural immersion promotes self-awareness a

Tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma: a review of literature focused on radiological findings for differential diagnosis.

Tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma (TC-RCC) has been classified as an independent subtype according to the 2016 World Health Organization (WHO) classification. It is a rare subtype that predominantly affects men. Although few in number, radiological imaging reports have suggested that TC-RCC is characterized by multilocular cystic lesions, which are categorized as the Bosniak classification II-IV, with signature pathological characteristics comprising numerous small cysts or a tubular structure. The Bosniak classification system facilitates patient management; however, the differentiation of cy

[Evaluation of the radiological, biochemical and serological parameters of patients prediagnosed as cystic echinococcosis in Çorum, Turkey].

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonosis caused by Echinococcus granulosus. It is difficult to diagnose CE by clinical symptoms alone, therefore, radiological and serological examinations should be conducted as well. The aims of this retrospective study were to evaluate the biochemical, hemogram, serological and radiological findings of patients prediagnosed as CE, and to survey epidemiological data to detect the status of the disease in our region. A total of 253 patients (148 female, 105 male) who were admitted to Hitit University Training and Research Hospital in Corum province (located in

Community-acquired Pneumonia: Diagnostic Challenges in Non-immunocompromised Patients.

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, affecting individuals outside health care settings. Streptococcus pneumoniae is the predominant pathogen, although regional and socioeconomic factors significantly influence epidemiology, resistance patterns, and outcomes. Diagnosis relies on clinical evaluation supported by imaging, microbiology, and biomarkers, yet presentations are highly variable across age groups and comorbidities. Chest radiography remains the cornerstone for initial assessment, while high-resolution CT (HRCT) offers superior

Safe Patient Care in CKD: Core Curriculum 2025.

Quality and safety in health care have garnered scrutiny in recent decades. Complete prevention of unintended harm remains elusive. Patients with chronic kidney disease are at risk for adverse events because of the complexity of this illness and the impact of declining kidney function on choices for diagnostic studies and therapies. Nephrologists must be knowledgeable about patient safety principles and methods for evaluating harm or near harm events and be prepared to learn from investigations to make improvements. Medication safety is particularly challenging in the context of progressive ki

Radiotherapy for Meningioma.

Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial brain tumor, and have a heterogeneous biology and an unmet need for targeted treatment options. Existing treatments for meningiomas are limited to surgery, radiotherapy, or a combination of these depending on clinical and histopathological features. Treatment recommendations for meningioma patients take into consideration radiologic features, tumor size and location, and medical comorbidities, all of which may influence the ability to undergo complete resection. Ultimately, outcomes for meningioma patients are dictated by extent of resection

Intrapulmonary solitary fibrous tumour: a case report.

Solitary fibrous tumours (SFTs) mainly originate from the visceral pleura and may protrude to the thoracic cavity, but intrapulmonary SFTs are extremely rare. We describe a rare case of SFT arising in the right lung of an 83-year-old man who underwent surgical excision. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a 10-mm tumour in the lower lobe of the right lung. The size of tumour gradually increased and reached 17 mm 2 years after the first radiologic examination. Considering the possibility of malignancy, wedge resection of the right lower lobe was performed via video-assisted thoracic surgery

Rapid Recurrence of a Benign Meningial Perineurioma.

BACKGROUND: We describe a rare case of a rapidly recurring benign meningial-based perineurioma. Clinical, radiologic, and pathologic features of a rapidly recurring falxial perineurioma are described; the perineurioma was discovered incidentally in an 86-year-old woman. CASE DESCRIPTION: Due to progressive gait disturbances and radiologically proven progression after a 3-year symptom-free interval, subtotal resection of a large falxial-based meningeal tumor was performed. CONCLUSIONS: The pathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of a perineurioma (World Health Organization grade I). Fo

Jugular foramen meningiomas: review of the major surgical series.

Primary jugular foramen meningiomas are uncommon, with 96 previous cases published between 1992 and 2007. Exact location and extent of tumor were determined on the basis of radiologic and operative findings and used to develop a staging system. The mean age of patients was 39.4 years. The lesion was located on the right in 14 patients and on the left in 11 patients. The series identified 23 males and 58 females. The most common presenting clinical symptoms were hearing loss and tinnitus. Most clinical findings were middle ear mass and neck mass. Most meningiomas were World Health Organization

Elevated leukocyte count in asymptomatic subjects is associated with a higher risk for cerebral white matter lesions.

OBJECTIVE: Cerebral white matter lesions (WMLs) are radiologic markers of small vessel disease in brain, and inflammatory processes were related to WMLs. We propose to determine if elevated leukocyte count was associated with a higher risk of WMLs. METHODS: 1586 asymptomatic subjects who visited our hospital for a routine health check-up were enrolled. Leukocyte counts were measured and the presence of moderate to severe WMLs was determined by brain MRI. RESULTS: Thirty (1.9%) had moderate to severe WMLs, and a significant greater proportion (4.1%) of subjects in the highest leukocyte count
