We have previously described the protective effects of a lipoidal splenic factor (SF) in mice challenged with E coli endotoxin. Whether SF would prove protective in hemorrhagic shock was the subject of the present study. Anesthetized and heparinized Sprague-Dawley rats were bled to a mean arterial pressure of 30 mm Hg. Bacillus anthracis lethal toxin (LT) produces symptoms of anthrax in mice and induces rapid lysis of macrophages derived from certain inbred strains. LT is comprised of a receptor binding component, protective antigen (PA), which delivers the enzymatic component, lethal factor (LF), into cells. Ovine prolactin (oPRL) binding to liver membranes was studied during the estrous cycle in normal and in genetically hypoprolactinemic rats. Serum levels of hormones were measured by radioimmunoassay and prolactin (PRL) binding was determined using 125I-ovine PRL in the 100,000 X g pellet. Carcinogenicity of 2,2'-diamino-1,1'-dinaphthyl has been investigated in chronic experiments on LIO rats and CC57 mice. Single doses of 20 mg were given to rats and 1-5 mg--mice. We observed the cholesterol metabolism of a colony of Wistar rats with a hereditary defect in vitamin C synthesizing ability (the ODS (osteogenic disorder-Shionogi) rats) in six kinds of experiments. We describe an in vivo animal model used to study the interactions of urinary flow, and bladder pressure and fullness on renal pelvic pressure. These parameters were examined in 17 nonrefluxing Sprague-Dawley rats. In secondary hepatic metacestodes of Echinococcus multilocularis at 156 days post-infection, a few small structures exhibiting a central body and a small number of concentric layers were found on the outer surface of the brood capsule, and many such structures were detected on the germinal layer. As these structures are believed to represent immature calcareous corpuscles, we think that not only germinal layer cells but also brood capsule cells of E. multilocularis metacestodes can form calcareous corpuscles.
