We report a case of retroperitoneal leiomyoma and a systematic review of the literature regarding this finding. A 45-year-old woman with menorrhagia and a complex pelvic mass underwent preoperative imaging and consequent total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Histopathology revealed a 13-cm retroperitoneal, pedunculated leiomyoma arising from the uterus anterior to the internal cervical os. We describe a 35-year-old female patient who underwent surgery because of a coincidentally occurring cryptic tumour near the left adrenal gland and a right renal carcinoma (pT1, N0, G2, R0). The left-sided tumour was intraoperatively identified as a cystic structure filled with secretion. Histopathological analysis provided the diagnosis of a bronchogenic cyst.

Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) is a locally aggressive vascular tumor that usually occurs in soft tissues of the extremity and rarely in the retroperitoneum. Retroperitoneal perforation of diverticular disease is very uncommon and can be difficult to diagnose because of possible pathways of communication between the retroperitoneal space and the thigh. An iliopsoas abscess from a ruptured diverticulum may drain into the hip joint if the capsule has been violated. Cases of abscesses or gas in the thigh have been reported in which thigh pain was the predominant symptom, overshadowing any abdominal signs. We report a case in which hip sepsis due to a ruptured diverticulum was the presenting feature.

Leiomyoma are benign tumors of smooth muscle origin. Uterine leiomyoma are extremely common; leiomyoma in extraperitoneal spaces, however, are not. There have been several documented cases of leiomyoma in retroperitoneal spaces, though the majority of them have been in the posterior retroperitoneum. Here, we report a patient presenting with a large, firm suprapubic mass, initially thought to be a fundal uterine fibroid. On surgical excision, it was found to be the extremely rare finding of a benign leiomyoma in the anterior retroperitoneum or space of Retzius.

Haemangioma of the retroperitoneal space is a rare benign capillary malformation, which can grow significantly in pregnancy due to the multiple associated cardiovascular changes. We herein describe the case of a pregnant woman with an extensive right retroperitoneal haemangioma extending from the level of the renal hilum, across the lateral anterior abdominal wall and into the thigh. We also highlight the challenges faced in the management of the patient's delivery process. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of such nature and severity described in the English literature.
