Digital radiographs displayed on different devices: effect on the detection of vertical root fractures.

AIM: To evaluate whether the type of display device affects the detection of vertical root fractures (VRFs) on digital radiographs in unfilled canals and canals with fibreglass posts. METHODOLOGY: Forty single-rooted human teeth were decoronated, and the root canals were prepared. The teeth were divided into 2 groups: controls (20 teeth) and with VRF (20 teeth). The VRFs were induced using an universal testing machine. Periapical radiographs of all teeth, with canal unfilled or with a fibreglass post, were obtained using the parallel technique in 3 directions (ortho-, mesio- and distoradial)

Evaluating the feasibility of calcium silicate-based sealers for strip perforation repair compared to mineral trioxide aggregate: an in-vitro study on bond strength.

BACKGROUND: Repairing strip perforations is challenging due to limited access and visibility. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is the standard material for perforation repair but is difficult to handle, whereas calcium silicate-based sealers (CSBSs) offer good adaptation, biocompatibility, and easier application during obturation. However, their ability to repair perforations during canal obturation, has not been validated in blood-contaminated conditions. This in vitro study compared the push-out bond strength and failure modes of iRoot SP (IR), BioRoot RCS (BR), and ProRoot MTA in strip-perf

A comparative study of the apical leakage of four root canal sealers and laterally condensed gutta-percha.

Previous studies have shown that lateral condensation of gutta-percha and sealer can provide an adequate apical seal. The purpose of this study was to compare the level of apical dye penetration when different sealers were used. One-hundred twenty-five teeth with single root canals were biomechanically prepared using the step-back technique and irrigation with EDTAC and 1% NaOCl solutions. The teeth were divided into five groups of 25 teeth each. The control group root canals were filled with laterally condensed gutta-percha and no sealer and the other four groups were filled with laterally co

Factors influencing NiTi endodontic file separation: A thematic review.

Nickel-titanium (NiTi) file separation during endodontic treatment is an undesirable event. This phenomenon needs to be understood by knowing the factors influencing fracture in endodontic files. There is a large amount of literature where these factors and their influence have been studied, increasing the knowledge about the mechanisms involved, mainly related to wire technology, file shapes and geometry, operator manipulation, the anatomy of the root canal, and the irrigation and sterilization processes. As many factors are involved, the complexity of the fracture phenomena increases and the

Endodontic therapy in a mandibular second bicuspid with four canals.

Success in endodontic therapy often depends on the removal of the critical concentration of pulp tissue or necrotic debris within the root canal system. The best method to ensure this objective is to locate and instrument all of the canals in the root of the tooth. Therefore, a thorough knowledge of root canal morphology is essential to reduce the chances of failure. The purpose of this article is to report a case of mandibular second bicuspid with four distinct canals.

Apical extrusion following different glide path instrumentation in curved canals of mandibular molars.

UNLABELLED: Endodontic failures are usually the result of technical errors compromising the proper endodontic procedures required to control and prevent periradicular infections. Among these errors, the extrusion of materials through the apical foramen has been associated with periapical inflammation, postoperative pain, tissue necrosis, delayed periapical healing and long-term failure. AIM: To compare the debris extruded through the apical foramen when different glide path files are used prior to endodontic instrumentation with the WaveOne Gold Primary file. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Twenty-fou

Determination of working length for teeth with wide or immature apices: a review.

Practitioners face several challenges during the root canal treatment of teeth with wide or immature apices, one of which is working length determination. There is relatively little data regarding the value of radiography and electronic apex locator (EAL) use when root formation is incomplete, and supplementary measurement techniques may be helpful. This review considers length determination for canals with wide or completely open apices in permanent and primary teeth. The Ovid Medline, Web of Science and Scopus databases were searched individually and in combinations to August 2012 using the
