A series of ketanserin analogs were studied for their effects on intraocular pressure (IOP) recovery curve of rabbits infused with hypertonic saline. Eight out of 31 compounds tested showed a marked delay in IOP recovery indicating that they are potential antiglaucoma agents. Whole blood serotonin (5-HT) concentration was assessed in 16 children and adolescents with severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and in 14 normal adolescent controls. There was no difference in blood 5-HT content between the OCD patients and the normal controls. A myopathy, which improved with cyproheptadine hydrochloride therapy, developed in a patient with carcinoid syndrome of ten years' duration. Biopsy examination revealed advanced atrophy of type II muscle fibers, with type I fiber preponderance. Many of the small fibers had degenerated. Carcinoid myopathy may be due to excess circulating serotonin.
