High-Throughput Analysis of New Bone Formation and Bone Substitutes After Maxillary Sinus Floor Elevation Using Synchrotron Radiation Micro-Computed Tomography.

This study addresses the usability of synchrotron radiation micro-computed tomography (SR-μCT) for the high-throughput examination of bone biopsy specimens harvested from maxillary sinus floor elevation (MSFE) patients. The experimental procedure devised for efficient data acquisition and volume analysis of bone biopsy specimens of sinus lift using SR-μCT is presented. The measuring was done in approximately one minute per field of view; 3D image visualization and volume analysis could be performed in one hour. Six months after the sinus floor augmentation procedure, bone biopsy specimens were…

[Research progress in maxillary sinus mucosal disease associated with maxillary sinus floor lifting].

Maxillary sinus augmentation is an effective procedure to gain bone height for implant placement in an atrophic posterior maxilla. But maxillary sinus diseases are prevalent in patients scheduled for sinus lift procedures. The presence of these diseases may increase the difficulties in performing the surgery and the risk of developing postoperative complications. This paper summarizes and introduces the common maxillary sinus mucosa diseases related to maxillary sinus augmentation.

Feasibility of Shape-Memory Ni/Ti Alloy Wire Containing Tube Elevators for Transcrestal Detaching Maxillary Sinus Mucosa: Ex Vivo Study.

BACKGROUND: Osteotome sinus floor elevation is a less invasive approach to augment an insufficient alveolar bone at the posterior maxilla for dental implantation. However, this approach has some limitations due to the lack of sinus lift tools available for clinical use and the small transcrestal access to the maxillary sinus floor. We recently invented shape-memory Ni/Ti alloy wire containing tube elevators for transcrestal detaching maxillary sinus mucosa, and developed goat ex vivo models for direct visualizing the effectiveness of detaching sinus mucosa in real time during transcrestal maxi

[Surgical dilemmas. Sinus floor elevation].

Limited alveolar bone height prevents the placement of dental implants. Sinus floor elevation is an internal augmentation of the maxillary sinus that allows implants to be placed. The principle of this surgical procedure is the preparation of a 'top hinge door', that is raised together with the Schneiderian membrane in the cranial direction. The space which created under this lid is filled with a bone transplant. Autogenous bone is the standard transplant material, despite the fact that a second surgery site is necessary. Under certain circumstances bone substitutes can be used, with a longer

Sinus floor elevation using osteotomes or piezoelectric surgery.

The aim of this paper is to describe a technique for sinus floor augmentation with a 1-step crestal approach where the residual bone is ≤ 7.5mm. 36 implants were installed in 25 patients in the atrophic posterior maxilla immediately after sinus floor elevation. Sinus floor elevation was performed with a crestal approach using either osteotomes and burs or piezosurgery. Standardized intraoral radiographs were taken prior to surgery and 1 year after surgery. The mean residual bone height was 5.61 mm (range 3-7.5mm). The mean gain of sinus elevation was 6.78 mm (range 3.5-10mm) at 1 year after su…

[Extent of surgical access in open lateral sinus lift as a predictor of complications: an anatomical and clinical rationale for minimally invasive and microscope-assisted approaches (literature review)].

Lateral augmentation of the maxillary sinus floor is a common procedure for bone tissue deficiency in the lateral regions of the upper jaw. Despite the high effectiveness of the intervention, clinically significant complications, primarily Schneider's membrane perforation, bleeding, damage to nerve structures in the skeletonization area, as well as pronounced side effects of the operation, remain relevant. The review systematizes data on the impact of the volume of surgical access during open sinus lift on complications and substantiates the use of microscope-assisted surgeries in combination

Cone-beam computed tomographic analysis of maxillary sinus septa among Yemeni population: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Maxillary sinus septa increase perforation risk of Schneiderian membrane during the sinus floor elevation (SFE). Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) allows for a more precise assessment of the septal position; thus, preoperative CBCT analysis is substantial to avoid possible complications. This study aims to investigate the 3D characteristics of the maxillary sinus septa based on CBCT images. To our knowledge, no study reported the CBCT-based investigation for the sinus septa among Yemeni population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of 880 s
