OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to better define the clinicopathologic features of oral angioleiomyomas.
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective search was performed for angioleiomyomas among all smooth muscle tumors accessioned from 1963 to 2001 in an oral pathology service. Twelve lesions met histopathologic criteria for inclusion in the study and were combined with 97 additional cases identified from the English language literature, yielding 109 cases for evaluation.

Intravenous leiomyomatosis was diagnosed in 3 women of reproductive age (35-37 years of age). The tumor located in the uterus or its broad ligament. Histologically, the tumor is represented by intravenous smooth muscle cells. The discussion covers histogenesis of the disease which can be associated with disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis, uterine leiomyoma, diffuse pulmonary leiomyomatosis. A mass was removed surgically from the right orbit of a 1-d-old Holstein calf. The present study aimed to explore the effects of antifibrotic agent halofuginone on uterine leiomyomas (ULs) cells. The survival of the uterine smooth muscle (UtSMC) cells and UL ELT3 cells were measured. Flow cytometry was used to assess the cell cycle distribution and apoptosis. Effects of halofuginone on the state of AKT/mTOR pathway were evaluated. Xenograft animal model was applied to explore the effects of halofuginone in vivo. Tranilast is known to suppress fibrosis or to work as a mast cell stabilizer and is reported to inhibit proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells. An instance of leiomyoma of the tongue has been reported. The theories of origin of smooth muscle tumors within the oral cavity have been reviewed. The necessity for differentiation of leiomyomas from other spindle-cell tumors and the need for thorough examination of the specimen have been discussed. Complete surgical excision of these tumors is the preferred treatment.

Primary epididymal tumors are rare. Adenomatoid tumors comprise 30% of paratesticular tumors. They are benign neoplasms originating from mesothelial cells. On the other hand, leiomyomas, originating from smooth muscle cells, are less common in paratesticular region. Leiomyoadenomatoid tumor is a benign tumor which combines the morphologic features of adenomatoid tumor and leiomyoma. To the best of knowledge, only two cases of leiomyoadenomatoid tumor in the paratesticular location have been reported in the literature. We document another such case.
