We measured the aluminum contents in foods and pharmaceuticals, and the aluminum concentrations in urine by atomic absorption spectrophotometry with polarized Zeeman background correction to obtain the daily intake and excretion of aluminum. We present a case of fentanyl overdose via mucous membrane absorption. A 31-year-old man presented to the emergency department in respiratory arrest. At intubation, a Duragesic transdermal patch (75 micrograms/h) was recovered from the buccal cavity. We report on a 59 year old male patient with cancer of the head of the pancreas, upon which pancreatic calculi were superimposed during the 3 year clinical course. Pancreatic calculi were noted in the main pancreatic duct (MPD) on both computed tomographic scans and ultrasonographs of the abdomen approximately 10 months after the recognizable dilatation of the MPD. Canine urolithiasis is a common, recurrent urinary disorder in dogs, posing significant clinical and economic burdens. Breed predispositions suggest genetic and metabolic influences. Accurate determination of urolith composition is essential for effective treatment and prevention. Here, we present a protocol to generate an infrared spectral library of key mineral components for canine urolith analysis. We describe steps for mineral selection, preparation of reference spectra, and library construction. We then detail a workflow for reliable urolith analysis.
