In the present study, a simple and efficient preconcentration method was developed using carrier mediated three phase liquid phase microextraction prior to HPLC-UV for simultaneous extraction and determination of trace amounts of highly hydrophilic tetracycline antibiotics including tetracycline (TCN), oxytetracycline (OTCN) and doxycycline (DCN) in bovine milk, human plasma and water samples. A simple procedure to incorporate tris(2-2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II), [Ru(bpy)3]2+, into Nafion Langmuir-Schaefer (LS) films is described. Nafion LS films (tens of nanometers thick) were formed on quartz glass and indium tin oxide (ITO) directly from Nafion-[Ru(bpy)3]2+ Langmuir films assembled at the water-air interface. Thin films consisting of two fulleropyrrolidine derivatives 1 or 2 and a water-soluble porphyrin, TPPS4, were prepared by the Langmuir-Schäfer (LS, horizontal lifting) method. Iron (III) chloride and potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) have been tested as reagents for the determination of promazine hydrochloride and perazine. The methods are based on the oxidation of phenothiazines by FeCl3 and K3[Fe(CN)6] in perchloric acid medium. A high-performance chromatographic method is described for simultaneous determination of ambroxol in the presence of different preservatives in syrups. The method separates ambroxol from methyl- ethyl-, propyl- and butyl paraben and from other multi-component mixtures. Column-switching chromatographic systems using conventional reversed-phase Separon SGX C18 and restricted access media LiChrospher ADS RP-18 precolumns were applied for the determination of propafenone and its main metabolite 5-hydroxypropafenone in human serum samples. A multiwavelength spectrophotometric (WApH) titration method was applied to study several multi-protic histamine H2-receptor antagonists which involved four acid dissociation constants (pKa values) over the pH range of 2-10. A method for the spectrophotometric determination of promazine by flow injection analysis is reported. The procedure is based on the reaction of promazine with molybdophosphoric acid. Concentrations of promazine in the range 1-25 ppm have been determined with a relative standard deviation of 1.8% at 10 ppm (n = 20). The method was applied to the determination of promazine in injections and compared favourably with an independent reference method based on spectrophotometry.

The binding of five barbiturates: amylobarbitone, secbutobarbitone, pentobarbitone, phenobarbitone and quinalbarbitone to human serum albumin (HSA) was studied by difference spectroscopy and spectrofluorimetric titrations. There were no changes in the HSA spectral properties. Our result suggest that there are two classes of binding sites on HSA for these barbiturates. A detailed investigation of the effect of their binding to HSA by deconvoluted spectra, suggests that the interaction of barbiturate-HSA takes place principally on the subdomain IIIA of HSA.

A method was developed for the rapid determination coumatetralyl in cola- and orange-type soft drinks, which includes extraction using solid-matrix column, clean-up by silica cartridge chromatography and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with diode-array detection. The recovery of coumatetralyl from 50 ml of soft drinks was better than 80% at spiking levels down to 50 micrograms/kg (ppb).
