Investigation of Sustained BMP Delivery in the Prevention of Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ) in a Rat Model.

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) poses an ongoing challenge for clinicians and researchers. Currently, there is a lack of preventative measures available for at-risk patients undergoing tooth extractions, especially those with prior bisphosphonate treatment due to osteoporosis or bone metastasis diagnoses. Here, these issues are addressed using a preventative tissue engineering strategy against MRONJ development. This study evaluates the efficacy of a poly(ethylene glycol)-heparin hydrogel as a tool for the delivery of arginylglycylaspartic acid (RGD) and recombinant human b

Mesenchymal stem cells associated with porous chitosan-gelatin scaffold: a potential strategy for alveolar bone regeneration.

Tissue engineering has emerged as a novel treatment for replacement of lost bone tissue. This study evaluated the effects of a chitosan-gelatin scaffold seeded with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) in the healing process of tooth sockets in rats. BMMSCs isolated from transgenic rats expressing enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP) were expanded and seeded on a chitosan-gelatin scaffold. These constructs were cultured for three days and characterized by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS). Receptor rats received the implant in the left so…

Secondary closure of an extraction socket using the double-membrane guided bone regeneration technique with immediate implant placement.

PURPOSE: Immediate implantation presents challenges regarding site healing, osseointegration, and obtaining complete soft-tissue coverage of the extraction socket, especially in the posterior area. This last issue is addressed herein using the double-membrane (collagen membrane+high-density polytetrafluoroethylene [dPTFE] membrane) technique in two clinical cases of posterior immediate implant placement. METHODS: An implant was placed immediately after atraumatically extracting the maxillary posterior tooth. The gap between the coronal portion of the fixture and the adjacent bony walls was fi

Effects of platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma, and platelet-rich fibrin on healing of extraction sockets with buccal dehiscence in dogs.

Alveolar bone resorption generally occurs during healing after tooth extraction. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of platelet-poor plasma (PPP), platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on healing in a ridge-augmentation model of the canine socket with dehiscence of the buccal wall. The third mandibular premolars of 12 beagle dogs were extracted and a 3 mm buccal dehiscence from the alveolar crest to the buccal wall of the extraction socket was created. These sockets were then divided into four groups on the basis of the material used to fill the sockets: PPP, PRP, PR

Flap Extension Technique Using Intrasocket Granulation Tissue in Peri-Implant Osseous Defect: Case Series.

A compromised extraction socket is characterized by severe bone resorption around neighboring teeth and is often occupied with thick intrasocket granulation tissue (IGT). Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a procedure that can preserve the bone volume around extraction sockets, and it can also be combined with immediate implant placement. However, an early exposure of GBR sites is a possible complication because it increases the risk of infection and can inhibit successful bone regeneration. The purpose of these case series is to introduce a novel, surgical procedure that can prevent the exposu

[The effect of local anesthetics and injuries on the angiographic picture of the cat mandibular blood vessels].

The authors examined the effects of local anesthetics and traumata (traumatic dental extractions) on the angiographic picture of the mandibular vessels of the cat in the 10th, 70th and 120th minutes. The application of local anaesthetics results in a reduced filling of the inferior alveolar artery in the 10th and 70th minutes. The picture returns to normal in the 120th minute. The traumatic extraction produces more marked changes up to complete spasm of the vascular system of the common carotid artery. In the 120 th minute, the blood supply is restored; and the normal number of vessels appears

Resorption of monetite granules in alveolar bone defects in human patients.

Bone grafting is often required to restore mandibular or maxillary bone volume prior to prosthetic tooth root implantation. Preclinical animal models are often used to study the in vivo properties of new bone graft products designed for human use. Although animal studies may offer valuable data regarding bioperformance, materials do not necessarily perform the same in human patients. In this study we implanted bovine hydroxyapatite (BH), a widely used porous apatite granule, and dicalcium phosphate anhydrous (monetite) granules, bilaterally in human patients post extraction alveolar sockets. A Review of the Application and Progress of the Socket Shield Technique in Implant Restoration.

The Socket Shield Technique (SST) is a method that aims to preserve the alveolar bone and reduce postextraction bone resorption by retaining part of the tooth root; despite significant advancements in immediate implant placement and bone regeneration techniques in implant dentistry, alveolar bone resorption after tooth extraction remains a major clinical challenge, with current methods failing to prevent bone remodeling completely. This review aims to summarize the application progress of SST in implant restoration, discuss its advantages and limitations, and analyze key issues in its clinical

Management of large inflammatory dentigerous cysts adapted to the general condition of the patient: Two case reports.

Dentigerous cysts may be of developmental or inflammatory origin. The latter occur in unerupted permanent teeth as a result of inflammation from a preceding non-vital primary tooth or from another source spreading to involve the tooth follicle. This report presents two clinical cases of children with dentigerous cysts of inflammatory origin. Case 1 is a healthy boy (7 years 11 months) referred for a large cystic cavity in the right mandibular premolar region. Extraction of 84 and 85 and marsupialization of the cyst were performed under nitrous sedation. A removable appliance with an acrylic pi

Management of a laterally luxated upper incisor caused by the hit of a rifle stock.

Lateral luxation is the displacement of the tooth in a direction other than axial, which is accompanied by comminution or fracture of the alveolar socket. Lateral luxation is one of the most prevalent dental injuries among the general population, resulting in up to 27% of all dental wounds. All physical activities have an associated risk of orofacial injuries due to falls, collisions, and contact with hard surfaces. Just like any other training activities, military training exercises present a significant risk of dental traumas, which comprise 2% to 8% of all military dental emergencies. The a
