INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The objective of this narrative review is to describe changes in urethral function that occur during a woman's lifetime. Evaluation of urethral function includes measurements of urethral closure pressure, at rest and during stress, leak point pressure, and the detailed study of anatomical and histological changes of the urethral sphincteric mechanism.

Malignant tumours of the male urethra are rare and commonly present at an advanced stage. The most common type of urethral cancer is urothelial carcinoma, followed by squamous cell carcinoma. Amyloidosis is a disease characterized by extracellular deposition of amyloid protein fibrils in tissues. It rarely involves the urethra with just over 50 cases reported in the English language literature. We report a case of urethral amyloidosis that mimicked urothelial carcinoma clinically. Primary malignant melanoma of urethra is an extremely rare entity. It has very poor prognosis. A 62-year-old post-menopausal female presented with complaints of voiding difficulty and a mass projecting from external urethral meatus. Urethral pressure profiles were recorded in a series of patients with traumatic lesions of the spinal cord producing vesico-urethral dysfunction.
