Postnatal development of mossy fiber afferents from the vestibular and the visual system to the vestibulocerebellum was studied electrophysiologically and morphologically. We report a case of acute tongue and uvula ulcerations consecutive to the use of a laryngeal tube Sonda (LTS) for airway management. The LTS was used during general anaesthesia for hysteroscopy and resection of endometrial hyperplasia. No trouble occurred during LTS insertion and anaesthesia. Symptomatic treatment provided complete resolution within a few days. This event points out the potential risk of more serious lesions.

Esthesioneuroblastoma is an uncommon malignant neoplasm of nose and paranasal sinuses. Esthesioneuroblaslvma presenting as a collision tumour is very rare. The case of such a rare presentation is being reported here in a patient with previous history of squamous cell carcinoma uvula, post irridiatted; who now developed a bleeding nasal mass which proved to be a collision timour c ontaining both squamous cell carcinoma and Esthesioneuroblastoma on biopsy.

A five-year-old boy of Iranian origin with multiple anomalies is described. His parents are first and second cousins. He presented with short stature, psychomotor retardation, microcephaly, ptosis, dacryostenosis, partial left nerve deafness, high arched palate, bifid uvula, total fusion between incisors, asymmetric preaxial and postaxial polysyndactyly, brachyphalangy, kyphosis and spina bifida occulta of S1. To our knowledge, a similar case has not been reported previously.

Extrapulmonary manifestation of tuberculosis (TB) in the adolescent population in the head and neck region may be atypical in the site of involvement, symptomatology and clinical presentation. We report a case of the management of oral and laryngeal TB in an early adolescent female who presented with ulceration over the palate and tonsillar region with uvula destruction and laryngeal symptoms and aim to highlight the atypical extrapulmonary manifestations of TB in the head and neck region in adolescent age group.

Hair tourniquet syndrome has been a recognized clinical entity for many decades. In this syndrome, hair becomes tightly wrapped around an appendage, usually that of an infant. Body parts involved include the finger, toe, penis, clitoris, and uvula. The end result of necrosis is also well documented. In this report, an 11-month-old girl with hair tourniquet syndrome causing signs and symptoms of an acute strangulation is presented.

An unusual submucous palatal cleft is presented. In addition to the usual triad of bifid uvula, posterior bony notching, and diastasis of the velar musculature, there was a linear bony cleft involving only the maxillary component of the hard palate. The palatine bone was intact between the posterior notch and the maxillary cleft. A discontinuous palatal cleft is an extremely rare deformity and is interesting because existing theories of cleft pathogenesis do not readily explain such a defect.

OBJECTIVE: The predictive value of changes in intraoperatively acquired motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) of the lower cranial nerves (LCN) IX-X (glossopharyngeal-vagus nerve) and CN XII (hypoglossal nerve) on operative outcomes was investigated.
METHODS: MEPs of CN IX-X and CN XII were recorded intraoperatively in 63 patients undergoing surgery of the posterior cranial fossa. We correlated the changes of the MEPs with postoperative nerve function.

We investigated a novel, minimally invasive surgery that uses an absorbable suture technique to treat snoring and mild obstructive sleep apnea. Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is an inherited disorder that is characterized by the triad of arterial tortuosity and aneurysms, hypertelorism and a bifid uvula or cleft palate.
