[Unilateral caloric hyporeflexis].

Seventy-one patients with an unilateral caloric hypofunction were examined in order to establish the correlation with cochlear function. We divised our cases following the subjective clinical syndromes. Groupe A (12 patients) with a history of only one crise of vertigo. Groupe B (13 patients) with repeated vertiginous attacks. Groupe C (21 patients) with a positional vertigo only. Groupe D (15 patients) with rather undefinite complaints. Groupe E (7 patients) with no vertigo at all. We believe to discern the following syndromes in our cases of unilateral vestibular hypofunction: 9 cases with a

Case Report: Galvanic Vestibular Stimulation in the Chronic Spinal Cord Injury Patient.

The traumatic spinal cord injury can generate sequels with high clinical severity and dysfunction and limitations of irreversible character. Current studies seek to reverse the sequelae and gain functionality in these individuals. Galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) has shown to be beneficial in spinal cord function as an evaluation correlated to functionality and for stimulation with physiological and functional characteristics in disease and healthy people. The present study observed the effects of Noise Galvanic Vestibular Stimulation in a patient with chronic spinal cord injury with tetr

Clinical symptom clusters, neurocognitive function, balance and vestibulo-ocular function in athletes with sport-related concussion.

OBJECTIVE: This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate subjective and objective deficits of neurocognitive function, balance and vestibulo-ocular performance in athletes with sport-related concussion (SRC) compared with healthy control athletes. METHODS: 72 patients with SRC and 72 matched healthy controls were included. All participants performed computerised testing of neurocognitive function, device-assisted balance testing and objective evaluation of vestibulo-ocular function (video head impulse and dynamic visual acuity test). Clinical symptom clusters (headache/migraine, anxiety/moo

Vestibular neuritis.

Vestibular neuritis is the most common cause of acute spontaneous vertigo. Vestibular neuritis is ascribed to acute unilateral loss of vestibular function, probably due to reactivation of herpes simplex virus in the vestibular ganglia. The diagnostic hallmarks of vestibular neuritis are spontaneous horizontal-torsional nystagmus beating away from the lesion side, abnormal head impulse test for the involved semicircular canals, ipsilesional caloric paresis, decreased responses of vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials during stimulation of the affected ear, and unsteadiness with a falling tenden

Multivariate vestibular testing: laterality of unilateral Ménière's disease.

This paper discusses the use of vestibular testing to discriminate between right (n = 29) and left (n = 27) Ménière's disease. We examined reduced vestibular response (RVR), directional preponderance, and spontaneous and positional nystagmus measurements from electronystagmography, as well as the asymmetry measurements from the sinusoidal harmonic acceleration test, to determine whether multivariate logistic regression could improve upon the discrimination performance of RVR alone. We found that patients with a spontaneous or positional nystagmus often had a "recovery nystagmus", beating in th
