Warfarin Dose Management Using Offline Deep Reinforcement Learning.

Warfarin is a commonly prescribed anticoagulant with a narrow therapeutic window, which requires frequent and specialized monitoring. This work aims to develop standardized optimal warfarin dose decision support using a machine learning model based on time-series anticoagulation data and patient demographic characteristics. We propose an offline reinforcement learning model (RL) using a Batch-Constrained Q-Learning algorithm (BCQ) in a discrete action setting to predict the cumulative warfarin dose for the days until the next INR (International Normalized Ratio) test. Prior approaches utilized

MuST-GCN: Multiscale and Hybrid Spatial Temporal Graph Convolutional Network for Accurate Identification of Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Dependence Within Alcohol Use Disorder.

Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), encompassing Alcohol Abuse (AA) and Alcohol Dependence (AD), is a chronic, relapsing brain condition that can cause mental and physical issues. Confusion between AA and AD can lead to ineffective or even excessively aggressive treatments, but distinguishing them is difficult due to similar symptoms and physiological indicators. Fortunately, from a psychological perspective, AA is closely linked to poor behavioral control, while AD is associated with affective lability. These psychological mechanisms are differently featured in the activity of patients' brain regions

"Dynamic Ensemble, Then Knowledge Distillation": A SHAP-Driven Two-Stage Framework for Sepsis Mortality Prediction.

Dynamic Ensemble Learning (DEL)-based mortality prediction models offer promising utility for monitoring sepsis progression. Existing DEL methods rely on unsupervised techniques, such as bootstrap sampling or feature partitioning, to generate training data subsets, failing to capture the inherent heterogeneity in the relationships between sepsis phenotypes and associated mortality risks. Moreover, combining heterogeneous base models leads to a loss of model explainability. To this end, we propose a novel SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP)-driven Dynamic Ensemble, then Knowledge Distillation

Developing multimodal cervical cancer risk assessment and prediction model based on LMIC hospital patient card sheets and histopathological images.

Cervical cancer remains a significant global health burden, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where access to early diagnostic tools is limited. In Ethiopia, cervical cancer diagnosis often relies on manual interpretation of biopsies, which can be time-consuming and subjective. This study aims to develop a multimodal machine learning model that integrates histopathological images and associated patient clinical records to improve cervical cancer risk prediction and biopsy detection. The dataset comprises 404 biopsy images and corresponding clinical records from 499 patie

Development and application of an early prediction model for risk of bloodstream infection based on real-world study.

BACKGROUND: Bloodstream Infection (BSI) is a severe systemic infectious disease that can lead to sepsis and Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), resulting in high mortality rates and posing a major public health burden globally. Early identification of BSI is crucial for effective intervention, reducing mortality, and improving patient outcomes. However, existing diagnostic methods are flawed by low specificity, long detection times and high demands on testing platforms. The development of artificial intelligence provides a new approach for early disease identification. This study aims

Shared decision-making process and its influencing factors among patients undergoing kidney replacement therapy: a qualitative descriptive study.

BACKGROUND: Patients with end‑stage kidney disease (ESKD) often struggle to choose among kidney replacement therapy options due to information ambiguity and the complexity of treatment pathways. In nursing, comprehensive, person-centered care has become more popular, placing a strong emphasis on advocacy and the defense of patients' rights. Discussions about the value of patient-physician collaboration in decision-making, patient involvement strategies, and the nuances of decision-making processes have resulted from this. Currently, there is a steady increase in research on dialysis modality d

Bridging Brain and Machine: A Neurocognitive Framework for Early Alzheimer's Detection Through Hierarchical Speech Processing.

Alzheimer's disease progressively disrupts temporal-frontal language networks, manifesting through degraded speech production detectable years before clinical dementia diagnosis. Traditional automated detection systems rely on handcrafted acoustic features, including mel-frequency cepstral coefficients, that may discard diagnostically relevant temporal dynamics through fixed spectral transformations. Drawing inspiration from cognitive neuroscience models of hierarchical speech processing, we propose the neuro residual acoustic learning framework, an end-to-end system operating directly on raw

Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease using machine learning and blood biomarkers.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer’s disease imposes a substantial socioeconomic burden on families and society, while diagnosis at the Mild Cognitive Impairment stage remains critical for effective prevention and management. Current machine learning approaches, however, are predominantly reliant on invasive neuroimaging or cerebrospinal fluid analyses, thereby facing inherent diagnostic limitations. Blood biomarkers provide a minimally invasive alternative, yet their integration with explainable ML frameworks for early detection remains underexplored, particularly in the context of scalable clinical imple

Towards High-Quality MRI Reconstruction With Anisotropic Diffusion-Assisted Generative Adversarial Networks and Its Multi-Modal Images Extension.

Recently, fast Magnetic Resonance Imaging reconstruction technology has emerged as a promising way to improve the clinical diagnostic experience by significantly reducing scan times. While existing studies have used Generative Adversarial Networks to achieve impressive results in reconstructing MR images, they still suffer from challenges such as blurred zones/boundaries and abnormal spots caused by inevitable noise in the reconstruction process. To this end, we propose a novel deep framework termed Anisotropic Diffusion-Assisted Generative Adversarial Networks, which aims to maximally preserv

ROXSI: Robust Cross-Sequence Semantic Interaction for Brain Tumor Segmentation on Multi-Sequence MR Images.

Deep learning-based brain tumor segmentation on multi-sequence magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has gained widespread attention due to its great potential in supporting brain disease diagnosis. Although, compared to single-sequence images, more information is available from multi-sequence MR images, noise and artifacts on any given MR sequence can result in significant performance degradations. As in clinical routine, it is not always possible to maintain high imaging quality across all MR sequences (e.g., foreign bodies, ventricular drainage, shunts, involuntary patient motion, etc.), ensurin

Age Group Discrimination via Free Handwriting Indicators.

Ageing is associated with cognitive and functional decline, which can hamper daily activities and independent living. Chronic diseases may intensify this process. Early detection of unhealthy decline is key but hindered by similarity to normal ageing. This study presents an approach for early screening of healthy ageing, using an instrumented ink pen to ecologically assess handwriting performance in three age groups: 40-59, 60-69 and 70+ years old. Raw handwriting data from 60 healthy subjects were used to extract fourteen indicators related to gesture and tremor. The indicators were then used

Function-Structural Interaction With Progressive and Multi-Level Feature Fusion for ADHD Classification.

Current neuroscience indicates that multiple brain regions in individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are structurally and functionally interconnected. The patient exhibited abnormal alterations in both respective modal brain regions and co-occurrent brain regions with multi-level relationships encompassing hierarchical interactions between function-structural alterations as well as hierarchical progression from local regions to broader brain networks. However, most existing multi-modal ADHD classification approaches independently embed functional and structural data i
