Totally Laparoscopic Versus Laparoscopy-Assisted Distal Gastrectomy for Early Gastric Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: Totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (TLDG) is a minimally invasive alternative to laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG) for early gastric cancer. While both are widely used, it remains unclear which yields better outcomes. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to compare surgical outcomes and postoperative quality of life (QoL) between TLDG and LADG. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases in May 2025. Mean differences (MDs) and risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled for continuous and binary outcomes, respectively.

Impact of tomatoes and tomato-derived products on obesity and cardiometabolic health: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Tomatoes and tomato-based products are central components of the Mediterranean diet and have been associated with improved cardiometabolic health, but their effects on anthropometric parameters remain unclear. This review aimed to assess the potential effects of tomato-based interventions on obesity-related and cardiometabolic outcomes in individuals with overweight or obesity. We conducted a PRISMA-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis. Eligible studies included populations with a mean BMI ≥ 25 kg m-2, evaluated tomatoes, tomato-based products, or tomato extracts (excluding isolated l

Acute cognitive effects of interruptions to prolonged sitting with brief standing or physical activity breaks: a systematic review and three-level meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Prolonged sitting is strongly associated with impaired cognitive function. Although traditional exercise interventions have been shown to improve cognitive outcomes, their implementation is often limited by practical constraints. In contrast, introducing interruptions to prolonged sitting with brief bouts of standing or physical activity has emerged as a more feasible alternative. However, previous research has been dominated by qualitative reviews. Moreover, some quantitative studies have not adequately addressed effect-size dependency arising from multiple outcomes and time point

Acute normovolaemic haemodilution after cardiac surgery: a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Acute normovolaemic haemodilution (ANH) is a widely adopted packed red blood cells (pRBC) transfusion sparing strategy after cardiac surgery. While the intraoperative effect is plausible and likely enhanced by the lack of blinding, the effect on the overall in-hospital transfusion rate is unknown. We conducted a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials to assess whether ANH reduced the proportion of cardiac surgery patients who received allogeneic pRBC transfusions during the postoperative hospital stay. METHODS: We searched for trials on ANH in adults undergoing elective car

Lifestyle interventions for dementia prevention in low- and middle-income countries: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: By 2050, two-thirds of people with dementia will live in low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs). However, multimodal prevention lifestyle interventions for people at risk are being developed predominantly in higher-income countries. METHODS: We systematically reviewed randomised controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating non-pharmacological interventions in individuals with mild cognitive impairment and subjective cognitive decline in LMICs. We assessed quality using the Mixed Methods Assessment Tool, meta-analysed and synthesised evidence. RESULTS: We included 25 RCTs from six count

Efficacy and safety of vericiguat across the spectrum of heart failure: a systematic review and updated meta‑analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) remains a major global burden. Vericiguat, a soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator, has been tested across HF phenotypes. Given mixed trial results, an updated synthesis is needed to clarify its role in HFrEF and HFpEF. METHODS: We systematically searched three databases for RCTs comparing vericiguat with placebo in heart failure. Endpoints included cardiovascular death, heart failure hospitalization, their composite, all-cause death, and safety events. Pooled hazard ratios (HR) and risk ratios (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using random-e

Exercise-based interventions for depression in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Depressive symptoms are highly prevalent among women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), with previous studies suggesting a substantially elevated burden of depression and depressive symptoms in this population compared with women without PCOS, exacerbating the metabolic and reproductive burden of the disorder. Although exercise is recommended as a core component of PCOS management, its specific effects on depressive outcomes in this population remain unclear because evidence from randomised controlled trials has not been comprehensively and quantitatively synthesised. The Influence of Individual Resistance Training Variables on Muscle Strength: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Resistance training (RT) is used to develop muscle strength for a variety of health and performance benefits. Because of the complexity of variable integration in a RT programme, it is unclear how manipulating RT variables influences the overall dosage (sets × repetitions × exercises × intensity × frequency × duration) expressed as a relative dosage (arbitrary units [au]) or absolute dosage (kilograms) and its effect on muscle strength development. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to investigate how RT volume, intensity and dosage influence muscle strength, and if any individual prescription
