Synovial sarcoma is a high-grade soft-tissue sarcoma that commonly affects adolescents and young adults. Involvement of the head and neck region is rare, and tumors arising from the sinonasal tract are particularly uncommon and diagnostically challenging. We report the case of a 38-year-old male who presented with head trauma and decreased consciousness following a transient neurological episode while driving. Brain computed tomography revealed a lesion involving the left anterior ethmoidal air cells with associated old cerebral infarctions. Further magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated an a

Post-COVID-19 mucormycosis may result in acquired maxillary defects that compromise mastication, speech, facial support, and separation between the oral cavity and sinonasal spaces. Rehabilitation becomes particularly challenging when the defect is associated with persistent oroantral communication and nasal regurgitation. This clinical report describes the prosthodontic rehabilitation of a 66-year-old man with an Aramany Class II right posterior maxillary defect following mucormycosis. Teeth 11, 12, and 17 were selected as strategic abutments. A staged approach was followed, beginning with a

A 3.5-year-old, 5.2-kg mixed-breed dog was presented with persistent stranguria after being neutered due to dystocia 6 months ago. Plain abdominal radiographs revealed an intrapelvic soft-tissue attenuating mass that displaced the urinary bladder cranially and constricted the descending colon. Abdominal ultrasonography yielded inconclusive results. Computed tomography revealed the mass as a tubular, hypodense structure compressing the urethra and the descending colon. This finding was defined as hydrocolpos induced by an imperforate hymen, segmental vaginal aplasia, or a vestibulovaginal disor

Angiomyxoma is a rare, benign mesenchymal tumor rarely encountered in the infantile hard palate. This case report describes the presentation, diagnostic workup, and successful management of an angiomyxoma in an 11-month-old male infant. An 11-month-old male was presented to the ENT department with a slowly enlarging, asymptomatic palatal swelling first noticed at 9 months of age. Intraoral examination revealed a 2 cm × 2 cm, soft, nontender mass on the anterior hard palate. A contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan identified a well-defined, oval, heterogeneously enhancing cystic lesion (8

Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a rare, extremely aggressive soft-tissue sarcoma that primarily develops in the abdomen of children and young adults. Orbital involvement is uncommon and typically occurs late in the disease course. We present a case of a 56-year-old male who attended the ophthalmology outpatient department with rapidly progressive, painless left-eye proptosis for 15 days. Ophthalmic examination showed axial proptosis with peripapillary flame-shaped hemorrhages; therefore, neuro-orbital imaging was performed. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a lobulated extraco

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) with FUS RNA binding protein-transcription factor cellular promoter 2 (FUS-TFCP2) fusion is categorized as a subtype of spindle cell/sclerosing RMS. The current study reports a case of rib RMS with FUS-TFCP2 fusion in a 29-year-old male patient who presented with a rib mass that had existed for 3 months without causing any discomfort. A computed tomography scan revealed an occupying lesion at the second rib bone with a surrounding soft-tissue mass, along with left cervical lymph node metastasis. Histologically, the tumor was composed of fascicles of spindle to epithelioi

Osteolipoma is an extremely rare histological variant of lipoma characterized by the presence of mature adipose tissue admixed with well-formed lamellar bone. Its occurrence in the oral cavity is exceptional, often posing a diagnostic challenge due to its nonspecific clinical and radiographic features. We report a rare case of osteolipoma in a 40-year-old male who presented with a slow-growing, painless swelling on the right side of the mandible of six months' duration. Clinical examination revealed a firm, mobile, non-tender mass causing facial asymmetry and intraoral vestibular obliteration.

Trichoepithelioma is a rare benign follicular adnexal neoplasm with hair follicle differentiation, most commonly occurring on the face. Malignant transformation is exceptionally uncommon, with fewer than 10 cases reported in the literature, all arising in patients with multiple familial trichoepitheliomas. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of malignant transformation of a giant solitary trichoepithelioma with extensive craniofacial invasion. We report the case of a 52-year-old man who presented with a rapidly progressive ulcerative lesion over the right side of the

RATIONALE: Synovial sarcoma, a rare form of soft tissue sarcoma, typically manifests in the synovium of major joints. The incidence of this disease in the intermuscular region of the abdominal wall, as observed in this particular case, is an even rarer occurrence. Relying solely on conventional imaging modalities often proves insufficient for establishing a definitive diagnosis.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 67-year-old female inadvertently palpated a mass in the abdomen two years ago. The mass was firm in texture and had limited mobility. The patient expressed concerns regarding the possibility of it

BACKGROUND: Rehabilitation systems based on brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) hold significant potential for stroke patients. Existing systems, predominantly relying on motor imagery (MI), have room for improvement in both performance and user comfort. This study aims to enhance these aspects by developing a hybrid BCI system integrating MI with steady-state visual evoked potentials (SSVEPs) elicited by peripheral visual field stimulation.
NEW METHODS: The system is coupled with a soft robotic hand for feedback, forming a closed-loop framework. The design incorporates concentric rings with 7°

In forensic autopsies of unidentified decedents, the collection of biological identification information is essential. However, when a body is discovered after a prolonged post-mortem interval, decomposition often results in the loss of primary identifiers, such as fingerprints, complicating the identification process. In such cases, forensic odontological analysis of the teeth and surrounding structures provides critical information. Post-mortem dental radiography is a fundamental component of this analysis. However, conventional panoramic radiography and cone-beam computed tomography systems

Acute pancreatitis (AP), a prevalent acute abdominal emergency, frequently leads to severe complications such as pancreatic pseudocysts, acute necrotic collections, and walled-off necrosis. These complications can progress to systemic inflammation and multiple organ failure, significantly prolonging hospitalization and markedly increasing mortality. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are nowadays indispensable in the detection and evaluation of AP complications, and each technique has its own advantages: CT, being widely available and rapid, excels at initial severit

Here, we report a case of retroperitoneal solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) in a 69-year-old Chinese woman. The patient had experienced lumbodorsal pain for more than two years. A computed tomography (CT) scan showed a mass adjacent to the right kidney, invading the surrounding soft tissues, measuring about 9.3 × 8.4 cm. An incision biopsy was performed. Microscopically, the tumor was composed of sheets of epithelioid cells with round to ovoid nuclei, and abundant clear cytoplasm. The cells showed severe nuclear atypia and brisk mitosis, with thin-walled branched blood vessels set against a myxoid

Abdominal cocoon syndrome is a rare cause of small-bowel obstruction characterized by a fibro-collagenous membrane that surrounds the intestine. Here, we report a documented case in which extensive fibrous membrane stripping was combined with intraoperative placement of a transnasal intestinal decompression tube, achieving rapid recovery and durable patency. We describe a patient in his 60s with intermittent abdominal distension, colicky pain, and complete arrest of flatus and stool. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed clustered jejuno-ileal loops enveloped by soft tissue density, r

Chronic otitis media (COM) is treated medically and/or surgically. Ossiculoplasty for COM with severe-to-profound hearing loss has not been recommended because the severity of hearing loss before surgery is negatively associated with postoperative hearing improvement. Our study assessed the effectiveness of ossiculoplasty for severe-to-profound hearing loss and identified prognostic factors associated with favorable outcomes. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 182 patients with severe-to-profound hearing loss who underwent ossiculoplasty with tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy for

Objective.Neural electrode arrays, as essential tools for recording and stimulating neural tissues, significantly impact therapeutic strategies for neurological disorders through deep brain stimulation, responsive neurostimulation, and brain-computer interfaces. Despite considerable advancements, the efficiency and longevity of neural electrode arrays are compromised by brain micromotion, induced by physiological activities such as cardiac pulsation and respiration. The mechanical mismatch between rigid electrode arrays and soft neural tissue generates persistent stresses at the electrode-tiss

Reliable and accurate sprint kinematics assessment is of utmost interest for both performance and prevention purposes. To guide field practice, new technologies must be tested against optical motion capture references. We compared markerless motion capture (ML)(Theia Markerless) to the reference method, marker-based motion capture (MB)(CORTEX). Three-dimension kinematic data from MB and ML systems and ground reaction force were collected simultaneously for 14 participants, at three stages of the sprint acceleration spectrum (early, middle acceleration and top speed). Sagittal plane angles for

Janus nanoparticles (JNPs) extend the concept of amphiphilicity beyond classical molecular surfactants into the nanoscale. Amphiphilic behavior is defined by the presence of hydrophobic and hydrophilic moieties within a single molecular structure. Traditionally, such molecular structures are known as surfactants or amphiphiles and are capable of reducing interfacial tension, adsorbing spontaneously at interfaces, stabilizing emulsions and foams, and forming micelles, bilayers, or vesicles. Recent experimental, theoretical, and computational studies demonstrate that these behaviors are scalable
