OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this article is to describe the high-resolution CT (HRCT) features of uncommon occupational lung diseases.
CONCLUSION: HRCT plays an increasing role in the evaluation of occupational lung diseases. We present several cases of unusual occupational lung diseases and their HRCT findings. The diseases studied were siderosis, talcosis, berylliosis, calcicosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis (due to wheat flour and isocyanates), and Ardystil syndrome. INTRODUCTION: The aim of the study was to compare the characteristics of occupational asthma (OA) resulting from sensitisation to allergens of high (HMW) or low (LMW) molecular weight.
METHODS: All new cases of allergic OA seen in an occupational health department between January 2001 and March 2004 were included. The patients underwent a standardised assessment including a questionnaire, skin tests, spirometry and measurement of non-specific bronchial reactivity. They were divided into 2 groups depending on the molecular weight of the causal agent (groups HMW and LMW).
RESULTS: 77 patients

Guinea pigs were actively sensitized by parenteral injections of ovalbumin (OA), house dust extract (HD) or Ascaris suum extract (As) in a variety of multidose regimens. The commonest dermatophyte infection among the referred dermatology cases in Nigeria is tinea pedis, whereas among the surveyed population of school children, the commonest fungal infection was tinea capitis. It was found that the most ubiquitous causative organism for tinea pedis was E. fluccosum, that for tinea capitis was M. audouinii, while that for tinea corporis was T. soudanese. The source of infection of tinea capitis among the school children was found to be most likely the local barber who serviced the schools in all the villages, and this might explain the high incidence rate of T.
