Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a well-known entomopathogenic bacterium widely used in biopesticide formulations due to its diverse arsenal of insecticidal toxins and environmental adaptability. However, the genetic diversity and virulence potential of native Bt strains from South Asia remain underexplored. In this study, we performed whole-genome sequencing and comparative genomic analysis of B. thuringiensis strain JSd1, isolated from Bangladeshi soil. The high-quality draft genome, assembled at 75x coverage, comprises 5.39 Mb in 64 contigs with a GC content of 35.28% and 99.26% completeness.

Telomeres are terminal protective chromosome structures. Genetic variants in genes coding for proteins required for telomere maintenance cause rare, life-threatening Telomere Biology Disorders (TBDs) such as dyskeratosis congenita, aplastic anemia or pulmonary fibrosis. The more frequently used mice strains have telomeres much longer than the human ones which question their use as in vivo models for TBDs. One mice model with shorter telomeres based on the CAST/EiJ mouse strain carrying a mutation in the Terc gene, coding for the telomerase RNA component, has been studied in comparison with C57

BACKGROUND: Schistosoma japonicum is a parasitic flatworm that causes human schistosomiasis, which is a significant cause of morbidity in China, the Philippines and Indonesia. Oncomelania hupensis (Gastropoda: Pomatiopsidae) is the unique intermediate host of S. japonicum. A complete genome sequence of O. hupensis will enable the fundamental understanding of snail biology as well as its co-evolution with the S. japonicum parasite. Assembling a high-quality reference genome of O. hupehensis will provide data for further research on the snail biology and controlling the spread of S. japonicum.

Glycogen storage disease type I (GSD I) is a rare autosomal recessive inborn error of carbohydrate metabolism caused by the defects of glucose-6-phosphatase complex (G6PC). Disease causing variants in the G6PC gene, located on chromosome 17q21 result in glycogen storage disease type Ia (GSD Ia). Age of onset of GSD Ia ranges from 0.5 to 25 years with presenting features including hemorrhage, hepatic, physical and blood related abnormalities. The overall goal of proposed study was clinical and genetic characterization of GSD Ia cases from Pakistani population. This study included forty GSD Ia c

BACKGROUND: Glycogen storage disease type 1a (GSD1a) is an inborn genetic disease caused by glucose-6-phosphatase-α (G6Pase-α) deficiency and is often observed to lead to endogenous glucose production disorders manifesting as hypoglycemia, hyperuricemia, hyperlipidemia, lactic acidemia, hepatomegaly, and nephromegaly. The development of GSD1a with diabetes is relatively rare, and the underlying pathogenesis remains unclear.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here we describe a case of a 25-year-old Chinese female patient with GSD1a, who developed uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) as a young adult.

Avian coronaviruses, including infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) and turkey coronavirus (TCoV), are economically important viruses affecting poultry worldwide. IBV is responsible for causing severe losses to the commercial poultry sector globally. The objectives of this study were to identify the viruses that were causing outbreaks of severe respiratory disease in chickens in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) and to characterize the strains. Swab samples were collected from birds showing severe respiratory signs in five farms on the island of Trinidad. Samples were tested for the presence of IBV, as w

Burkholderia pseudomallei, the causative agent of melioidosis, encodes almost a dozen predicted polyketide (PK) biosynthetic gene clusters. Many of these are regulated by LuxR-I-type acyl-homoserine (AHL) quorum-sensing systems. One of the PK gene clusters, the mal gene cluster, is conserved in the close relative Burkholderia thailandensis The B. thailandensis mal genes code for the cytotoxin malleilactone and are regulated by a genetically linked LuxR-type transcription factor, MalR. Although AHLs typically interact with LuxR-type proteins to modulate gene transcription, the B. thailandensis

Many different heritable connective tissue disorders (HCTD) have been described over the past decades. These syndromes often affect the connective tissue of various organ systems, including heart, blood vessels, skin, joints, bone, eyes, and lungs. The discovery of these HCTD was followed by the identification of mutations in a wide range of genes encoding structural proteins, modifying enzymes, or components of the TGFβ-signaling pathway. Three typical examples of HCTD are Marfan syndrome (MFS), Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), and Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS). These syndromes show some degree of

Equine herpesvirus type 3 (EHV-3) is the causal agent of equine coital exanthema, a disease characterized by pox-like lesions on the penis of stallions and the vulva of mares. Although the complete genomic sequence of EHV-3 has been recently made available, its genomic content remains poorly characterized and the molecular mechanisms of disease development not yet elucidated. In an attempt to facilitate genetic manipulation of EHV-3, we describe here the construction of a full-length infectious bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) clone of EHV-3. Mini-F vector sequences were inserted into the

Factors responsible for the persistence of Arkansas Delmarva Poultry Industry (ArkDPI)-derived infectious bronchitis vaccines in commercial flocks and the high frequency of isolation of ArkDPI-type infectious bronchitis viruses in respiratory cases are still unclear. We compared dynamics of vaccine viral subpopulations, viral loads, persistence in trachea and cloaca, and the magnitude of infectious bronchitis virus (1BV)-specific antibody induction after vaccination with two commercial ArkDPI-derived Arkansas (Ark) serotype vaccines. One of the vaccines (coded vaccine B) produced significantly

Recent sequencing of Plasmodium vivax field isolates and monkey-adapted strains enabled characterization of SNPs throughout the genome. These analyses relied on mapping short reads onto the P. vivax reference genome that was generated using DNA from the monkey-adapted strain Salvador I. Any genomic locus deleted in this strain would be lacking in the reference genome sequence and missed in previous analyses. Here, we report de novo assembly of a P. vivax field isolate genome. Out of 2,857 assembled contigs, we identify 362 contigs, each containing more than 5 kb of contiguous DNA sequences abs

INTRODUCTION: Episodic ataxia (EA) designates a group of autosomal dominant channelopathies that manifest as paroxysmal attacks of imbalance and incoordination. EA conditions are clinically and genetically heterogeneous. Seven types of EA have been reported so far but the majority of clinical cases result from two recognized entities.
STATE OF ART: Episodic ataxia type 1 (EA1) is characterized by brief episodes of ataxia and dysarthria, and interictal myokymia. Onset occurs during the first two decades of life. Associated epilepsy has been reported in some EA1 patients. EA1 is caused by mutat

BACKGROUND: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is genetically heterogeneous and caused by mutations in at least three different loci. Based on linkage analysis, mutations in the PKD2 gene are responsible for approximately 15% of the cases. PKD2-linked ADPKD is supposed to be a milder form of the disease, its mean age of end-stage renal failure (ESRF) approximately 20 years later than PKD1.
METHODS: We screened all coding sequences of the PKD2 gene in 115 Czech patients. From dialysis centres in the Czech Republic and from the Department of Nephrology of the General Hospital

This study determined the complete mitochondrial (mt) genome sequence of the canine heartworm, Dirofilaria immitis, and compared its structure, organization and other characteristics with Onchocerca volvulus and other secernentean nematodes. The D. immitis mt genome is 13814 bp in size and contains 36 of the 37 genes typical of metazoan organisms, and lacks the ATP synthetase subunit 8 gene. All of the genes are transcribed in the same direction. For the entire genome, the nucleotide contents are approximately 55% (T), approximately 19% (each for A and G) and approximately 7% (C), which is ver

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Celiac disease is the most common severe food intolerance in the Western world and is due to gluten ingestion in genetically susceptible children and adults. Intestinal biopsy is the golden standard for evaluation of mucosal damage associated with celiac disease. Gluten-free diet is the key treatment for celiac disease. Data on the long-term control of celiac disease are few and limited to small series of patients. The study reports data on the control of celiac disease and on its correlates in a large cohort of celiac adults during long-term treatment with gluten-free die
